Okay I was wondering what have you all have heard regarding price? I was at my dealer today looking at 2005-2006 STS cars and while speaking to my salesperson that had just returned from training on the new XLR which is also supposedly getting a "V" designation in the future? She said that the price was going to be around 85,000 for the STS-V? :bonkers: Also the 2006 XLR is at 90.000 ? Just trying to get fact from fiction?

Can I get a Lil Jon "Whatttt?"

The general consensus here is low 70s. They won't sell more than a dozen of them at 85k.
That's exactly what I said. Apparently they are trying to compete with Mercedes Benz and BMW! For that price I would definitely reconsider :hmm:
Now why in God's name would I buy an STS-V for $85,000, when I could buy an E55 AMG for $82,000.

516 lb-ft. @ 2,650 - 4,500 rpm sure as hell isn't bad, considering the SC N* makes less than 440 ft. lbs. Price is something that needs to be lower in order to really compete. Back in the early 90's, when the LS400 was really making a scene, it was priced $10,000 below the BMW and MB competitors, and had remarkable quality. People bought these great cars, many because of the price. GM, don't think that because you're suddenly building high performance cars for Cadillac that you can price them to compete. You have to earn respect first. Build the world's highest quality car first, and make Cadillac the standard of the world, before you price the first true high performance Cadillac engine to compete with tried and true German engineering.

The STS-V comes loaded. Configure the E55 with equivalent options and then start comparing prices between the two.

I take it you haven't seen Mercedes Benz quality reports lately.... The S class the the Hindenburg have more in common than just German engineering.
tht mercedes engine is 1 liter bigger then the cadillac engine? so id assume the cadillac is prolly less heavier... and gets more horse for less engine?

same hp but lighter.

MB is about to replace all their supercharged v8 with a brand new NA engine that puts out more hp than ls7

This is absolutely 100 percent true, HOWEVER, unlike most car companies, Mercedes has ackknowledged their recent pitfalls and is working actively to resolve them. Theyve made large strides in the past year.
The E55 is not heavier than the STS-V and with about 76 more lb-ft of torque it will run away and hide from an STS-V or any any other performance sedan not made by Benz

I bet the STS-V will sell for significantly less if optioned the same though.
E55 AMG - 4087 LBS

STSV isnt known yet, but going off of, the CTS to CTSV change, and loosing a bit since it already has a V8 standard...probably around 4100-4200 LBS.

SO an E55 will probably beat an STSV...but the E55 starts at $82,000
soon all the supercharged v8 for the amg 55 series engines will be replaced with far superior 6+liter v8 with output of over 500hp

I don't know about far superior. It will be down a significant amount of torque compared to the blown 5.4 in the E55 and S55. Of course mercedes could always add a super or turbo on later to make it more powerful.

The new 6.3 liter engine (really 6.2) is actually very similar in output to the LS7 Z06 motor.

I agree.

New 6.2(3?)L for E63, S63 and others:
...It measures 6.2 liters, revs to 7,200 rpm and delivers 503 hp at 6,800 rpm and 456 lb-ft of torque at 5,200.

The engine in the '06 E55 makes 516lb-ft @ 2,650 - 4,500 and 469HP @ 6,100

The new motor is better suited for a manual transmission whereas the E55 motor is much better with an automatic and it is not even close.

516 pound feet at 2650! That is incredible push off the line.
Wow. Down 60 lb/ft? That will be missed. I think the new car will 'feel' slower.

Exactly

The old motor will beat even the V10 BMW.

I bet that unless gas prices put a halt to the HP wars Mercedes will put some type of blower on that engine to get the torque back where it should be.

600 lb-ft with a blower

supposedly the new motor won't run out of steam in the high end like the blown motors. (that's from mercedes benz). Also the new motor is very light.

By the time it gets to the high end the blown motor is gone!

Seriously, 60lb-ft of torque will make you dissappear real quick.

I think that the new engine has a much higher potential though. In fact, if they put a blower on it it just may make the hopped up 12 cylinders redundant.

Mercedes has been coming correct with their engines lately. I never thought I would see the day when they would smoke BMW so badly.
