Hey, reading that letter reminded me of a problem I hadwith a 78 LeSabre coupe.
When idling, the oil idiot light would come on.
Replaced the switch, which worked for a short time, and then the sending unit was the culprit.
However, the culprit here could be a gooey oil pick up tube in the crankcase.
When the tube gets gummy, the pressure can get low at idle, sending the oil light into convulsions. Since oil pumps themselves seldom fail, this could be the problem, and pulling the pan is not a huge deal - just messy!!
Just a suggestion.
BTW, I also owned an 84 Eldo w/huge sunroof, and I really enjoyed that car immensely.
Traded nine years ago for a 93 Sevile, which I have now. Love this car, but miss my Eldo sometimes.
Watch those balljoints, tho!!
