I've been hearing a loud sort of engine rattle when accelerating in my 92 Eldorado 4.9L, read somewhere on facebook that shell v-power was causing this guy's valves to rattle and it's the same kind of gas I use in my cadi 100% of the time, given there's a shell station where I am. Idk if that could cause it or not. Is this most likely my problem as well? I hope my valves aren't going out! Any positive input is appreciated.

Rattle on acceleration in an emissions controlled engine is a classic example of a bad/sticky/clogged EGR system.

Valves don't "rattle" unless the rest of the engine is terminal.

Just to say...I'm taking my 92 Eldo 4.9l in next week for a catalytic converter. It went...and it rattles. But it also does it in park at an idle.
I had that problem before and I removed my catalytic converter and replaced it with a piece of muffler. It's a different rattle, like the one you hear when you use cheap gas, except I'm using v-power 93 from shell

Since the 4.9 does not have a spark knock detector, we can rule that out (assuming what we are talking about is spark knock as described above). Might check the timing, although it SHOULD be adjusted by the PCM. Perhaps a carbon hot spot in the cylinder causing detonation (another long shot)?
