I am planning to buy a newer car, I drive an 83 Olds 98, in the next month or so and have pretty much decided on the 92+ seville. I was wanting to know what the differences are w/ the engines between the different models(SLS, STS, and etc.). Also any other major differnces between the models too.

In 92, both the Seville and the STS had the 4.9L OHV V8. The STS got a higher final drive, at 3.33:1 vs the Seville's 2.97:1 ratio. The STS was more monochrome, and had more standard features. The base model was not called an SLS yet in 92.

For year by year Seville changes see:

then 93 came along....the SLS retained the 4.9L but the STS inherited the Northstar rated at 295hp/290lb-ft.

By 1995, the Northstar ruled and still does. 275hp and 300hp for the SLS and STS respectively. In 2001 or 02, they made change the combustion chamber in the Northstar so that it could take regular octane.

(BTW, I learned most of this great info right here!)

Another big difference is the sls version has a chrome grill and chrome around the side where the sts's grill matches the car color and not as much chrome on the side. But the big difference is the handling and power which the sts rules over the sls. I drive a 1997 sts and love it. You will be happy with either seville but if you can get the sts.

Do any of you guys know if Insurance premiums would vary between the SLS and STS. I have a somewhat of a bad driving record, 1 at fault accident and 1 careless driving.
