Hi

I am currently looking at a 2002 Escalade AWD that my dealer friend has on his lot it is gold platinum in color and it has about 130k mi on it. Took it for a drive today and all appears to work except for in the 3rd brake light half the led lights appear dead.
The rear hatch lock assembly appears to be seized however it still unlocks and can open and lastly the big one I tried the AC and it when the button is pressed ie the AC button the light flashes a few times and then goes out?

Are these items a deal breaker he is giving me a break on the price he is asking 10k for it and I have always wanted a full size SUV and this appears a good opportunity to buy one.

Please let me know as he said he would hold it until Monday for me.

Thanks

the ac button is not a problem, if i am not mistaken, the controls were probably set to defrost, and the blinking was to let you know that you cannot turn off the a/c while it is set to defrost.
the brake light could be a short in a wire, or burnt out, that might cost a little bit to repair, and i never put my key in the rear lock... mine is seized as well.... try the secondary key, it might not be as worn down as the primary key

if you want it..... get it, I am happy with mine

have them fix everything before you buy it! and try to talk them down on price, it always works for me, never except there first offer. I bought 02 AWD for $14k and it has 82k miles.. $10k with 130k miles seems a bit high..

Try setting the offer a little lower because the miles are pretty high on it. Also check to see if he can provide a CarFax report. Depending on how the car was treated by its previous owners, it'd be the only reason for the mileage to matter. If the car has never been through an accident or in any major problems I think you should definitely get it. I promise you'll instantly fall in love with the Escalade :)

check to make sure your rotors and brakes don't need to be replaced soon, then your shocks and tires. may seem a little funny but.. Go in there and push every single button to make sure every single button works, may help you talk down the price. spark plugs, fuel filters... those are a lot of miles and things will need to be replaced sooner or later you know what I mean?

+1 on the AC blinking, when it blinks the system is telling you that it is either in defrost mode and cannot come on or it simply is too cold outside for the system to turn on the A/C.

And yes, play with EVERYTHING, press EVERY button. Power mirrors, power seats, roof, front and rear heated seats, audio system, S.I.C. (Secondary Information Center), rear defroster, power windows, etc. Good info on getting a CarFax, checking brakes, rotors, shocks etc.

Couple of things to keep in mind. Check the tire depth, remember to check the spare!! Check to ensure that the jack and roadside tools are present. Owners books are a plus if they are there. Ask the seller where the truck came from and if he has any maintenance records. If the previous owner preformed scheduled services, it can mean all the difference in a high mileage truck.

I bought my '02 with 76k on it for $11,500. I now have 95k on it and haven't had one complaint.

Best of luck to you!

Makes it sound like the dealer is trying to give the one your talking about away.. These prices are ridiculous for the year and miles on these vehicles
Your bargaining point is whatever problems you can find with the vehicle.. Will they wash it and give you a full tank upon purchase? Does it come with 2 sets of keys with remotes, and what about the manuals? Try to find a similar deal somewhere else, make him compete for your business. Let him know that YOU know you can buy a vehicle anywhere.

I have an 02 and it has onstar. am I missing something. Also I just bought mine 2 months ago. I looked for a year. What I found, at least in my area, you cant steal one of these. I am amazed the prices they sell for with high mileage. I tried to get a deal for some time but I would low ball them, they would turn me down, and a few days later it was sold. I finally found a near flawless one with high miles, gave in, and actully paid 2 grand more than kbb said it was worth, but they wore me down and I wanted one. Dont regret it, I love it and plan to keep it for a while so I guess it dosn't matter. I've never paid over wholesale for a vehical but I just couldnt do it on this one.

sticker price on mine was roughly $23,000 if i'm not mistaken.. plus 1,900 for a two year warranty. It had 60,000 miles and the interior was flawless.

Driver side was missing the chrome step rail strip and the rear plastic piece that goes on the rail just infront of the rear tire, and the drivers side was missing a bracket on the bumper. They replaced the front bumper with a brand new one. I got the rear step rail cap and had it painted and installed my own. Now I'm seeing 02's going for 14-16 thousand, and the gas prices are spiking? doesn't make sense. I drove like 2 hours to have a look at it after seeing it posted on the net... He didn't think he was going to sell it to me or anyone for that matter (for whatever reason). The KBB was like 28-29 on it so I jumped on it. The way the market is, you would figure the prices would be steadly dropping the older and more miles the vehicle has.. I'd have to say wait until after easter/spring break and see what kind of deals turn up, cause everybody is going to be having a sale. Or follow your gut. GL though

Hate to disappoint you but all you have is a button that says onstar. 02' Escalade don't have working onstar. The dealers know this but yet they insist on preying on people who have no idea that their onstar is non-op
"For years, OnStar has relied on the analog cellular network to provide communications to and from vehicles. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has ruled that in early 2008, cellular carriers will no longer be required to support the analog cellular network.

As a result, starting January 1, 2008, OnStar service in the United States and Canada will be available only for vehicles that operate on the digital cellular network. This is an analog-only vehicle, with equipment that can only operate on the analog cellular network. Since this vehicle's equipment is analog-only, its OnStar system will not operate on the digital cellular network. This equipment cannot be upgraded to operate on the digital network. This means, in an emergency, despite what the system may indicate, this vehicle will not have a connection. We regret that we will not be able to provide OnStar service to this vehicle after December 31, 2007.

This vehicle is eligible to receive OnStar services on a monthly basis through December 31, 2007. To renew monthly, call OnStar at 1.866.248.1966.

We sincerely regret any inconvenience this change in technology may cause you."
