Had my 04 V kick out of first a couple of times in the last three weeks. Kind of unsettling when it happens. Is this a sign of impending doom?

Mine would do this in 6th gear and it had something to do with the motor mounts (I have no idea why..)

After getting the motor mounts replaced it would stay in 6th without a fuss

I'm rarely in 6th though, so 1st gear would have me pretty worried.

I've heard about this happening to a friend of mine as well, but my friend told me it ended up being his synchros, not his motor mounts. Best take it to a dealer.

mine does it when i am lazy and i don't put it in first all the way.

first gear syncro went south and now, more than likely, first will also have to be replaced. Once they start jumping out of gear, it just gets worse.

Had a problem like this with a different car...Syncro's needed to be replaced and solved the problem.

My 05 has done it ocasionally for the last 35k miles. I think is is like 814v said above when you don't get it all the way into 1st it pops out. I wish it didn't as it scares the hell out of me when the driveshaft torques and unwinds all at once. Glad the U joints and rear can take it.

My '05 transmission started popping out of 6th. Usually, hard use is in the 1-2 syncros. Then it started popping out of 5th Dealer tried to repair under warranty and condition reoccurred. After some negotiations the tranny was replaced under warranty. My understanding is that this new transmission is an "improved" T-6 much like the improved rear differential.

now that my car is out of warranty, should i just try and replace the syncros and see if that helps?

Mine did it in 2nd and it was VIOLENT when it happened. Bad syncros.

yeah i would have someone look at that, my maxima did that and the next day i had to be towed to a shop that showed me a pile of what used to be functioning transmission parts

Hey I know a bunch of guys on here have started to stockpile spare V parts for "just in case scenarios" I'm kind of leaning toward starting a parts depot on here. I mean every couple weeks we get a guy out of warranty needing a driveshaft, rear end, trans, motor you name it. Then they are scrambling around calling all the pick a part junkyards trying/frantically to locate their busted part or else they pay through the nose at the stealership...

If a bunch of us all listed out what we had on the shelf as spare parts and would be willing to part with for whatever we paid for them... I bet it would collectively help us all save some cash in a pinch... as long as tried to replace that part later... maybe the buyer pays the difference(Why do I feel like I'm starting to sound like a socialist?)

I mean I have a whole rear cradle, and upgraded diff and driveshaft.... in the market for a trans...gonna build a motor maybe... I'd be willing to help a poor busted V owner out.....

This was happening to me when i 1st bought the car. They 1st replaced motor mounts, when that didnt work the had to replace synchros and had to rebuild 2nd 3rd and 4th. After a looooong process of calls to warranty group and dealer they finally replaced the trans, and the clutch because of the violent kick outs broke the teeth off. And that solved it all. hopefully yours will be a lot less crap. Good luck!

Mine started poppping out of first at 20K. Rear diff failed at 50K due to bad slave. It pops out if you dont work it all the way into gear, or as stated earlier, if you get lazy.

Just out of curiosity, how does a bad slave cause your diff to go out?

mine will do it from time to time, i got in the habbit of going N-2-1, my brothers acura was the same way. just today 2nd gear kicked out when i was downshifting.

hopefully it fails before my warrenty is up, this will be tranny #2 this car has had in its life :)

This car still has the factory shifter and bushing as far as I can tell. I will most likely go ahead and go the uuc route to take the slop out of the shifter. I kind of feel this is more the issue than the synchros. Even if it is the synchros I have rebuilt several manual transmissions over the years and even a couple of Porsche transaxles, so this one should not be any problem.:thumbsup: You know I do have a TKO600 .64OD sitting at home that needs to go into something. ;) That should handle just about any future mod I would feel like doing.
