What years / ranges are interchangable? Will a fob from an 2000 or 2001 Deville work on a 2002 Deville?

I *think* they changed from 2000 to 2001 (my 2000 STS is different than my father's 2001 deville). However, my 2003 dhs is the same as the 2001 deville.

Ultimately, you need to match the numbers on the back to check if it will be compatible.

My 03 DHS remote 1 has 25695954
Hmm, that's what I was thinking because all the ones I see on eBay either say 2001 to 2005 or 2000. Never 2000 - 2005 but I had to ask.

I need a #2 fob for my 02 DTS
The 2000 keyfob has a button to open the fuel door (instead of a panic button). That's the only difference that I can really tell.

The number on a 2 keyfob is 25695955
Same number on the #2 remote for my 01.
the last digit should be different. #1 ends with a 4, #2 ends with a 5 (for 2001+). 2000 is a different number (#1 is 25656444 for 2000)
Is it true that you need a Tech II to program the remote? There's a lot of posts / threads around here about this but it all sounds like hearsay to me. No one has actually said yea or nay.
I don't think a tech. is needed to program the Fob. Hold the lock and unlock buttons at same time until you hear the horn. This should program the remote to your car.
Yes, you need a Tech-II. On the older cars you could short the wire in the trunk for programming, but not on the newer ones.

All remotes need to be present at time of programming, as well. I had to get a few programmed about a year ago.
LOL Actually, that puts the car into TPMS learn mode.

OK, I'll have the dealer do it while the cars in there this Fri for other things. I really need to buy a Tech II

OK, get a price on that Tech II and post back please.
I have a 2003 deville and it says inside the remotes how to program. I believe it says lock/unlock at same time

Been down that road... it doesn't work that way. An 00-05 Deville can only be programmed with a Tech 2.
Dude, this thread is more than 2 years old. I now realize for $99 I can make my Droid a TECH II at least for diagnostics. If I want to buy a tool I will. They can be had now for about $1500. Worth every penny if you own / work on a car that requires one. Hell I have camera gear that costs more than that.
