OK, I could have done a couple experiments to figure this issue out but It Is cold and snowy so I come to the forum members for an answer. My wife came in from the garage and said that she was able to open the trunk with the touch pad while the key was still in her purse inside the house. We have a detached garage and MY set of CTS keys hang inside the side door laundry room about 30' from the car. So how exactly does it work when keys are in close vicinity to the car? Are my keys providing a signal to allow trunk to be opened without physically having key on person? Will that stop when distance increases?
My wife also wants to know if we both have our keys on our person does the CTS recognize one over the other? Closest one? What if I get in passenger side first. How is seat set when she gets in?

Can't answer the trunk question.

The key is recognized at the door you enter. One can unlock from the passenger side while the other enters with their fob to drive and it will adjust to the driver's fob settings. This assumes you have it set up in the menu to recognize them this way. I was surprised that my car was not set up that way when I picked it up new and my salesman did not believe that it was even possible.
