Key slot on driver's door handle ... ?

2782 Views 17 Replies 13 Participants Last post by  Guy.Seminerio
On these keyless entry system v2's, my guess is that it is for emergency access if the battery is dead, or something similar. But where or what is the key? I didn't receive one with the car, but did anyone else?

Just wondering ...

It's hidden inside the fob. Press down HARD on the rectangular tab at the bottom of the key fob face, then grasp and pull on the metal part of the key fob- it'll pull out, revealing the key.

Thanks for the assist Tony!

As for the other responders - just picked the car up Friday and hadn't got to that part of the manual yet. :p

Just thought I'd tag this discussion similar to this where I added pics.

My salesman went over these sort of things with us.
Thanks for the assist Tony!

Rob, manual shmanual, as Ketzer said your salesman should have shown you that.
You guys actually read the manual? Where is the manual located?

Yep he should have - but as I mentioned in another thread, nobody, (including the saleman), at that particular dealer knew much about the v2. But they sure wanted my service business and a good write-up on GM's survey form. Not gonna happen - found a much better outfit for service, etc.

Yup. Rob dealt with the same clowns in Seattle (Doug's Cadillac) who were supposed to provide me with a guaranteed rock bottom price via my bank's buying service. After the initial contact they totally ignored me... Oh, did I mention it was DOUG'S CADILLAC in Seattle? :annoyed:

:D And Drummer - I found out during my warranty work @ Brotherton's, that they apparently lost their status as Costco auto dealer which is the only reason I ordered through them, and Brotherton is now the area Costco dealer. Apparently the word is out .... :yup:

Hello Rob, Their is a precut door key inside of each remote fobs on Cadillac cars equipped with a keyless ignition, like your V-Series. Look for a narrow black button near the alloy base of the key fob. Press that in and pull the alloy part away from the black part. You will see it emerge. Slide it in until it clicks to put it away.

Nah. We've had a few 9/10 year old threads pop back up in the FWD forums in the past few months. :yup:
