The person I bought my 1998 SLS from only had I key and one remote I am the only driver so this works but I need a spare key at least for emergency I had a key made at the hardware store but it only opens the door it wont start the car I guess I have to have a blank key with the chip in it is this someting I have to get from the stealership and about how much are they? I just got a new key from the dealer. It cost $35. They have to program it to work. Same deal with the remotes. They have to program those too.

Put your good key into the ignition, and start the car. Trun off the car, and remove the key. Within 15 secs, insert the new key into the ignition, and turn it to "RUN" (do not try and start the car). After all of the chiming stops, remove the key. Then reinsert it into the ignition, and start er up.
