Ok Hauling car to shop last week to start mods I made a huge mistake. I put the key on car trailer and drove to shop:crying:. Needless to say i only had one key and after hours of looking on side of road I found it. Only problem is that it had been run over:banghead:. car still recognized signal and will start but FOB is broken into to pieces. How do i know what remote to order as far as serial number and do i have to carry it to cadillac to program or will the car recognize the new key and i just add it o program. Thanks

If the circuit board inside the fob is not broken, save yourself some money and just acquire a new "shell" to swap the guts into. I don't think they're sold through parts, but you could probably find one cheap on eBay or similar. That'll save you some money AND time by not needing to have the fob programmed (it takes a while, therefore $$$ labor charge). Just make sure it's the fob from a similar model with remote start so the buttons line up with the circuit board- any CTS with remote start or STS fob should work.

All you do to open up the case is remove the key from the bottom, then insert the long edge of a knife into the seam on the side of the case and gently twist to pop it loose. Work your way around the outside until the two halves come apart. Swap in the PCB from the old fob and you should be good to go.
