Key fob is only 16 months old. I searched the forum for key fob, then fob, then key....search returned no results. Any ideas? The fob is usually in my pocket. Sometimes the car won't unlock, other times I can't start the engine. Sometimes I get a message that the key is not found (don't remember exact wording).

if you keep your cell phone and key fob in the same pocket it will stop it from working, esp if your phone is on or your getting a txt message.

Try that and see if that solves your problem. I know on my z06 and my cts-v i keep them in separate pockets now and they work everytime...

The battery on my Key fob went out after 12 months. The dealer replaced the battery under warranty.

I also had another issue recently where the ignition wouldn't recognize the signal at all, and the car locked up. I was able to enter and exit, but the ignition control wouldn't read the key fob, even in the emergency slot. They had to address several updates in the software at the dealer, and it worked again.

The antennas for the key FOB are good for only one meter. The distance for unlocking the car is usually less than a meter. The distance for the car start might exceed one meter or be blocked by other keys, etc. The antenna for the car start is in the center console. That is why the owner's manual says to put the FOB in the special compartment in the console if the FOB is not recognized as being in the car. That is as close as you can get to this antenna without removing the console. This is a stop-gap measure for weak FOB batteries or when interference (internal or external) causes this problem. When in doubt, read the owner's manual.

Thank you everyone. I did try moving my cell phone away from the front seat, holding the fob near the console, etc. When I pushed a few buttons on the fob and shook the fob LOL, then it responded. I switched to the spare fob, and I'll see what happens. I'll also have the dealer check it next oil change. Again, thank you all!!!

Been there; done that. I read the Owner's manual and found some clarification. The proximity of the Key Fob to the "V" in-car (center Console) receiver is everything.
Also, having two GM Key Fob cars, separating them to opposite [V in right] pockets fixed my problems.
The most aggravating was the His[Hers] programming. The V seemed to like my wife (short woman) more than myself. It always wanted to position the seat forward, :crowded: jamming my 6'3" frame into the dash. Separating the Fobs cured this preferrential treatment problem.

Had an issue last night with the cadilac not recognizing my key fob, I didn't realize my wife had her key fob in her purse. After doing some testing we found that with only one key fob in the car there was no issue but as soon as two key fobs were in the car it wouldn't recognize either key fob. The only thing I can figure is the key fobs were interfering with each other. Has anyone else had this experience?

Just speculating, but I don't imagine the fobs would interfere with each other. I would guess they operate on slightly different frequencies, which is how the car recognizes fob #1 vs fob #2.

Maybe if the car detects more than 1 frequency, it ignores them as a security feature, to ensure it's not someone transmitting multiple signals at different frequencies to try to spoof the car.

Yes, I had the same problem after reprograming a new Key fob for my SRX. The tread can be found under the SRX 2nd generation discussion. I fixed it by reprograming it again.
