Due to popular request after making the info thread on our valve covers, I'm posting camshaft info. I'm listing the 3 street cams that we sell. We have many other cams that can be spec'd to your engine, but these are the street cams dyno tuned to LS1/LS2/LS6 street engines.

Katech Inc. has been in the racing industry for 25+ years and knows that the key to a winning engine is the camshaft. Not only do our camshafts make great power, but the durability on them is second-to-none. What makes our camshafts so great is our ability to analyze the valve while it is in motion on our Optron spin cell. This is a claim that few people in the industry can make, especially since we were one of the first companies to use this technology. With our involvement in the C5-R race program, we can safely claim that there has never once been a failure due to insufficient valvetrain design.
What this means for you is you will get the most durable, highest revving cam package that is on the market today. You can also be assured that every aspect of the camshaft has been designed for great power and superb drivability.

These cams are all priced at $389.95.

STAGE I
Katech "Torquer" camshaft KAT-4074
Excellent street cam with amazing torque gains over stock
Dur: 268/284 (@.004)
Lift: .550/.547
LSA 112
Check out these gains on a stock LS6:

STAGE II
Katech "K.spec" Camshaft KAT-3702

LSA: 110

STAGE III
Katech "Trac" Camshaft KAT-4084
Ultimate in performance. requires valve reliefs
Dur: 288/285 (@.020)
Lift: .581/.581
LSA 110

Hollow stem valve kit +1000rpm range
2.000/1.550 - KAT-A4097 $495.00

I would love to be able to bump my rev limit up a few hundred RPM for road course purposes. I know valve float becomes an issue. If moving to a cam with a higher power curve, are valves all I need to worry about? What else would I need?

If you go with lightweight valves and retainers with stock LS6 springs, you can spin to 6800 or more without valve float. We know this because we have tested it on our Optron valvetrain dynamics test cell.

Which cam would best suit a Magnacharger? How much do shops usually charge for cam installation? Is the KAT-4074 a drop-in meaning that it is the ONLY part needed to create a safe and reliable engine?

We would most likely choose a different cam for a supercharged engine with less overlap. If you're interested I'll discuss some ideas with an engineer.

For those of you who do have an NA engine, the KAT-4074 is an excellent street cam and no other parts are absolutely necessary. Lightweight valves would be great, but that would be optional.

Oh no you didn't....
The Torquer cam is EXACTLY what I've been looking for autox work. I'm more than happy with the top-end of the LS6, I'd just like a little more umph down low and you went ahead and addressed the issue!!!!

Is this Mark from Katech? I remember speaking with a Mark, I think, who worked with GM on engines....that you? We spoke about what could be done with the suspension for our cars....I'm sure you speak with plenty of wingnuts so I don't expect you to remember...but if it's you, I'll say to all that you're a good guy.

As Will asked, how's the idle? Would the dealership be able to tell something is "not as GM provided"?
Thanks for the help,
ace

Just curious...Don't we have Lightweight Sodium Filled Exhaust valves on the LS6? Are your referring to the intake valves only?

I think the huge torque boost looks enticing, but I am curious about the scream of the engine as it approaches 6500 RPM. That visceral feeling as the Z06 and "V" stride past 4500 RPM is hard to match. Does the engine nose over as it crosses 6000 ?

Is the only delta the cam? No headers, intake, tuning, etc added?

Last - I am really surprised you have to notch the pistons with the Trac cam. Even with stock sized valves?

Thanks for the contribution to the site.

Sorry, Jason, I didn't see your ending sig...

Another quick question, with the torquer cam what type of ecu tuning is needed? Can Katech supply the tune via a Diablosport tuner/Superchips tuner/StealthV tune? Thanks for the info.

We can tune for you using LS1 edit. FYI, Mark no longer works here.

Yeah, what's the install price (approx)? Even if the engine does not need to be pulled, the grill, radiator, & other probably do ... gotta rough figure?
