So I came to be the owner of a new in box K&N LS2 specific kit for the V1.

Overall it's well built, but has a few glaring issues with fitment.

It's tight. Very tight in the engine bay, and makes contact with the radiator. For those with Alradco radiators you will have to heat and dimple about 8" from the MAF for clearance.

It's a 4" Cai that narrows to 3.5" for the MAF sensor.

I swapped out from my previously installed Volant CAI box.

There is a difference between the two, but I honestly believe it's because of a clean filter that I'm noticing the primary difference.

The sound level under the hood has increased, and the throttle does indeed seem snappier than my OEM box with 4" tube, and the Volant. This may be due to the fact that I drove the Volant for a week during a wonderful Arabian sand storm and plugged the filter up pretty good.

The LS2 specific kit does have the provision for the clean air line to the PVC. It's plastic. A 3/8" brass bung fits perfectly, and is what I used. The line is before the throttle body, and is a little bit of a strange location in my opinion.

Overall I'm impressed with the system, but for the premium price it should fit like a glove.

I am required to have brand name CAI if installed to pass Abu Dhabi vehicle inspection and modification approval. I liked the fitment of the Volant better, but after installing a ported intake, the 4" tube seems to be ideal for my combo.

I am unsure as to why, but my AF ratio is now a ideal 14.3-15.3 vs dipping from 12.3-16.6 with the Volant. Again this may be due to the filter.

The biggest benefit is that I now have 2 filters on hand as they are identical in all dimensions, so next sand storm I can swap them easier.

Hope this helps someone later on researching which CAI if any to purchase.

I did leave the bizarre rubber snorkel that runs from the front grill to the air box area intact. I am unsure if any effect would be noticeable by removing it, but next bumper drop I will be installing a angled pvc opening directly facing forward to potentially direct more air towards the filter.

So almost 30 days later and I do have a positive update. If it has more power I cannot say as it hasn't been noticed or dynoed.

I am netting 25 ish mpg average with my setup and tune with this CAI. That's up +1 mpg from the Volant and +2 mpg from stock air box with 4" tube. Stock tube and filter netted 20MPG on the nose, driven aggressively or tame.

I have zero explanation for this. The only changes I have made is dropping to 91 octane from 93 due to availability(which was averaged across 3 tanks prior to swapping) locally and the install of the K&N. It has been average daily temp of 40-45C with 30-50% humidity, which usually has a negative impact.

I am not complaining either :) For those overseas that's 8L/100 km to 10L/100km(28 mpg to 23 mpg range) is the average and 8-10 instant at 136 kmh(84.5 mph). All MPG numbers reflect fuel quantity used and mirror real world refueling numbers. I can now go a week between tanks currently if not being driven aggressively, which is a improvement over the previous setup. If I play rough with it, half a tank in a few days.

Ill update and see if this is consistent in 30 days. If so, its staying.

Mod list for the curious:
Chinese 1 3/4" long tubes
400 cell high flow cats
H pipe in place of resonator
Stock exhaust back to 3.5" tips
Fast 92, ported
K&N CAI
Tranzilla with lower ratios
ACT twin 36 lb rotating assembly
Tuning by Pat Gurerra

That's it for power adders of any variety. The rest is suspension which should have a minimal impact on fuel economy.

This 05 I just bought has a K&N system. Looks like a good kit. They claim 19rwhp with it on the LS6.
I don't believe it actually adds any HP. I believe it just helps the engine be more efficient and use what it already has available a little better.

But the difference between a 4" intake tube, volant set up and K&N is minimal at best. Biggest thing I noticed was a marked increase in fuel economy.
