Chrysler & Fiat tie the knot - Done Deal

Obama does not want domestic auto industry to fail
Beginning in April he is considering waiving Federal & State taxes on GM, Ford & Chrysler domestic cars & trucks.
IF (big word) IF Cry-Co extends its present offers (due to expire tomorrow) you can buy a Charger SRT-8 6.1 Hemi for $9,000 rebate, & 3 year interest free financing, and pay no Fed or State Tax ! :yup::thumbsup::burn:

Re: Just heard on Radio @ 2PM

Now there's a marriage doomed to fail! Lee Iacocca finally got his wish. Although I think he had Chrysler buying Fiat as the way to go! I bought my Alfa Romeo 164 new from a Chrysler dealer. Iacocca had tried to buy Alfa before Fiat took it over. Actually the sorting out of the Alfa 164 that Chrysler gave the car prior to marketing it in the US was highly successful, at least my Alfa was the most reliable and best built car I have owned (ten years of truble free driving); that combined with Alfa's usual superior handling and mechanical smoothness made it my all time favorite car. But I don't see Chrysler's corporate style getting along any better with Fiat's management than it did with Daimler's. Let's hope for a miracle!

Chrysler & Fiat tie the knot - Done Deal
That was fast. After Obama's speech this morning, the NPR analysts were saying it would be very difficult for Chrysler and Fiat to work out a merger within the 30-day deadline imposed by the Obama administration.

I can only hope this merger works out better than the one with Daimler. That was pretty much a disaster (a $30 billion loss for Daimler) with only one decent product to come of it: the 300/Charger/Challenger that used parts of a previous-generation E-Class design.
Everything I'm reading says they have a "framework" for a deal, but "substantial hurdles" still exist. I can't find a source claiming it's DONE.

Well, it went this way with XM and Sirius. They announced intentions, then announced official intentions, then battled it out with the FTC and FCC, then several months later did the actual merger.
Oh I know, but we've already been hearing about the potential Chrysler/Fiat deal for months. Unless Sandy just heard about it for the first time, I was wondering aloud how this news justified a new thread (since there's no new news other than a "framework").
It was reported at 1:55PM today on 1010 wins radio in NYC that Cry-Co & Fiat had reached a tentative deal shortly after 12 noon, today.
This would probably work as well as them staying independent. All they'll do is rebadge some of Fiat's little eco-mobiles to meet their CAFE requirement.

I'm buying Maserati badges for the Ram.
Actually I think perhaps FNI badges might be more appropriate. Maybe Fiat will bring some of its' game shows to the US and spice things up a bit ..... va-va-voooom! I would really like to see some of Alfa Romeo's better offerings available back on these shores again.
wasnt one of the issues Fiats 35% stake was to be reduced only to 20% for the "anointed one" to bless the merger?

F
The Internal Revenue Service announced a new plan to allow taxpayers to deduct the sales tax and excise tax on any new car they purchase.
