Jaguar xj8 HELP!

My dad's 2001 xj8 has power folding exterior mirrors.

The problem is, when you push the button they unfold, then keep going past the usual position, all the way forward.

(unless you catch it with your hand while its unfolding. then it triggers a switch and stops where its supposed to)

Pushing the button again folds the mirror all the way back again. In other words, we can't have the mirrors correctly deployed.

The dealer told him it was a $2000 fix!?!?

I dont believe it, please tell me theres a better/cheaper way.

I look forward to hearing what you find out.
My parents are at te mercy of the stealerships at this point.

350 makes a good point, since both mirrors do this, I am guessing the problem is not localized to the actual mirrors.

OK, I'll tell him.
(do the Euro versions have folding exterior mirrors too?) btw my dad's in Japan, so it may be a different spec.
