My dad's 2001 xj8 has power folding exterior mirrors.

The problem is, when you push the button they unfold, then keep going past the usual position, all the way forward.

(unless you catch it with your hand while its unfolding. then it triggers a switch and stops where its supposed to)

Pushing the button again folds the mirror all the way back again. In other words, we can't have the mirrors correctly deployed.

The dealer told him it was a $2000 fix!?!?

I dont believe it, please tell me theres a better/cheaper way.

$2000 to fix the mirrors? That's criminal! Both mirrors go, not just one? That's odd, but helps to rule out some options. Good luck!

Thats a rediculous price $2000!?!?!

These cars were prone to some electrical problems though

My dads pal is an auto electrician and still does contract work from a local dealer network, i'll talk with him this afternoon.

350 makes a good point, since both mirrors do this, I am guessing the problem is not localized to the actual mirrors.

I spoke with him this afteroon, he says it could be a short curcuit. It isnt anything he has ever dealt with, however.

He would recommend going to an indipendant Auto Electrician and get a diognosis before having the dealer do the work.

Yeah im positive the mirrors fold inwards here, i wih your dad the best of luck in getting his car fixed!
