Well the night at the drags didn't go so well...

On the bright side I got good gas mileage on the way home.

On my first run of the night, I left the light just like I usually do. Right about 3500 RPMs. Eased the clutch out and BANG. I coasted about a quarter of the way down the track. It would still move when I let out the clutch but made real bad grinding noises when I gave it gas. I limped it to the pits and called AAA.

On inspection the case is all still in one piece. Must have just blown the gears apart. There really is no excuse for that. Now I have to decide what to do. I think I will just park in in my garage until the dealership can promise me the upgraded diff.

Then I want to put a Ford 9" in!

Mine did the same thing but it wasn't the gears, one of the half shafts spun in the CV.

It was sad to see her leaving on the flat bed Dan..
I figured the way my car is wheel hoping now that mine would be going home the same way.. But she held tough and I was able to drive her home.
Like I said at the track Dan, I would just wait until you can get the 06 unit. You would be storing the car for the winter pretty soon anyway.
We will have to get together in the spring time, and then we can run the 12's side by side..

Double damn. Or in my case, quadruple damn! I agree with your decision to wait for the upgraded unit. My guess is that you can coax the dealer into getting you that unit sooner than later. You may have to call Cadillac Customer Service and bump this up the ladder a few rungs to get what you need.

I have an 06' diff on order. Call your local cadillac dealer and give them the part #. Its been a week so far, and it looks like its gonna be acouple more weeks before it'll come in, but I don't mind the wait, better than them putting another 05 in

Any idea how much beefier? I am still worried that the new rear and even these half shafts won't be enough. I want my car to be able to do 1.6 short times. Okay, 1.9's would be fine if I could do it without worry. Maybe a straight Ford 9" needs to go in...

I am very interested in the Australian company. My next big mod is definately a bullet proof rear. No matter how much it costs. (within reason of course) If nothing is available by next year I think I see a Saleen in my future.

I only read this. I dont know what the axle improvement is.

It will be a while for the Aussie's. I havent shipped the rear yet but I will do it this week without fail. They need to se it.
*NOTE This is supposed to be a bolt in for an IRS..not a straight axle!

This thread is disconcerting. We have these examples of General Motors Performance Division cars and we are thinking of replacing the weak rearends for a Ford 9".:crying:

Dan, I don't blame you on the Saleen. Better yet, the upcoming SVT Cobra GT500 wouldn't be a bad replacement either. These aren't bad replacements if you don't need the 4 doors, luxury, and handling to put BMW M's in their place.

For some of us, we're in too deep to get out. We have $5k superchargers, $5k custom forged wheels, $3k Penske coilovers, and now it seems like we need to invest another $5k+ for a bulletproof rearend.:nono: I hope a company steps up or better yet GM steps up to keep us from embarrassing ourselves on the track.

I'm not mad. I just hope GM is listening. Like Jerry Mcguire said, "help me, help you." :D

Sounds like when my halfshaft went as well. Simple fix. I was kinda hoping it was the rear so I could hold out for an '06 unit, but they just replaced the halfshaft and put me on the road.
I wondered the same thing. I hope not. Were there any visible signs externally?

Get real!!! These weren't built to be running in the NHRA!!! It is a performance sedan, not a dragster funnycar----Go get an old pile of crap and build a dragster with your ford 9", and quit bashing GM. These Getrag rearends are alot better than they were just a couple years ago.

You are right Supercrew632. What was I thinking. I buy a 50 thousand dollar american muscle car and expect to be able to go to the drags once in a while and actually be able to drive it home. What was I thinking?

Since you only have 17 posts, I am guessing you are relatively new here. Do some searching and you will realize that the rear end in the V is a joke. By the way, I'd take a Chevy 12 bolt too.

:welcome: You're very late to this discussion. There is a reason why they're called GET RAG.
