My 94 FWB has some very sloppy shifter linkage. Like, when in OD, if I moved the shifter up, I can get the needle between R and N. But all the way down is OD. If in D, then up to between N and OD to rest down in D. So when shifting from D to R takes some doing to keep from overshifting into P or to just sit between gears.

Is the linkage a cable to the trans, or is it like my 80 T/A, where if loose, it will do that? I haven't had a chance to get under it to look (it is 10pm when I get home...) and weekends are always busy. So I would like to get an idea if this is common and is it an easy fix?

The shift rods under the hood seem ok, nothing obviously wrong there. I haven't had a RWD Column shift car since my 76 Olds and it was fine.

Thanks!!

Hmm! I forgot there was one there, my 76 had it, but my 80 T/A doesn't (cable shifted).

I will be under it tomorrow. Danke!
