one of the back-lights went out. not a critical failure, but it looks kinda ghetto.

wondering if it's a sealed unit and i have to replace the whole unit, or of it's "openable" to allow replacement of individual back-lights.

you can replace the bulbs individually if you remove it from the dash

Remove the two center air vents and you will see 2 screws holding the vent housing, remove that piece, then I think 1 more screw on the cluster right there. You have to pry up on the front edge of the upper dash pad a bit, take care not to crack the lens of the cluster while doing so. Then pull cluster out and twist down and tip right edge out to unplug connector. Not the easiest job, but doable for someone mechanically inclined.
