Greetings,
I have a 2004 cadillac cts 3.6L and was thinking about upgrading my standard cd player to like a double din aftermarket in dash touch screen dvd player. However I realize I will be losing the the orginal factory cd players option ability to make changes to the car settings such as the locking mechanism, etc. So my question is, is it a good idea to upgrade it and if so would my current settings remain the same or what would happen? Anybody knows please let me know, thanks.

That would of course be the easy route. As far as what you might lose, well that all depends. If you are planing on using the GMOS 10 from metra and pac audio steering wheel kit, you may only lose one button on the steering wheel, which would be the onstar button. And most importantly, you will be losing the volume control knob, because the pac audio can not learn that. Since you will need to press and hold down the buttons to program, the knob is unable to do that. Each click is a "pressed" button.

But before you lose all hope, check this out.

Man thanks alot for all the information. I really appreciate it. And thanks for the link as well. That link was very useful and has all the info I needed. I don't really mind losing a few functions or so. As long as I can keep the main ones like i seen this one dude did on that thread, im good! Thanks once again, that was definitely a one solution stop.

You don't have to lose any factory functions if done properly, except for the factory swc volume. I installed a Pioneer dd nav unit in my 04 and made the DIC, swc, chimes, rap, etc, still functional.

So did you customize the installation yourself or did you get other professionals to do it? Have any pictures of the finish work?
