I was doing some searching on the internet and I came across the Alpine VPA-B211A VehicleHub. It says it hooks into existing factory Nav unit and gives it additional functionality. Like additional monitors, backup cameras, and Ipod connectivity.

I thought this info might be helpful to those on this forum.

I don’t have a V yet (once I graduate, in 3 months) I plan on getting one. :D

cool idea. Looks like a standalone preamp of sorts with inputs for an ipod adapter, their own nav systems and what have you. It then spits out audio out and video out which you have to interface through your own/other method.

This unit like others needs a vehicle specific interface adapter. So far, I havent found one for the V. Without it this is unuseable.
There is one coming VERY shortly from a supplier. It will be about 125-175 and offer FULL integration into the factory nav (I have NOT confirmed exactly what this means yet). It will use the XM input and is supposed to do the following: Display song titles on the radio, allow control of the ipod VIA the radio (playlists, next track, etc), charge the ipod, etc.

From what I understand, I will now relocate the ipod to the center console (under the armrest) and be able to almost completely control the ipod from the radio. I am VERY exited about this since it is basically plug and play (yes, plug and play).

Stay tuned for details in the next week.

Yeah Reed!!!! Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah!!!:highfive: One question though, will it disconnect XM?
Reed...you da man.

Please don't keep us in the dark too long!
WOOT. that would be A M A Z I N G ! (especially at those prices).
You're kidding? I can't wait! I was just about to do the iPod input/XM mod on the FAQ, thank god I read this first.
Reed, this is a major breakthough if it happens, please let us know
Is that only going to be available for the Ipod or will it work on any other MP3 player??
Only ipod to my knowledge...

I think initially you will lose XM, however the company is working on a solution so you can keep XM (but that may take longer).

I hope to have more details this week.

interested...
"initially you will lose XM"
suddenly lost interest :(

If you're talking to them, just ask them to do a simple toggle switch if they can't do it electronically.

Best,

Check www.peripheralelectronics.com . I used their SVEN4 and GM harness adapter to remove my Vette's Bose Gold deck and replace it with the Pioneer Avic-N1 DVD/Nav system while keeping the factory Bose speakers and wiring. They also have adapters for changing your deck but retaining OnStar and other options.
