Greetings from IL, My name is Carl. I work as an IT Administrator for a local Credit Union. I recently purchased as 2011 White Diamond 3.6L RWD Premium Sedan.

I looked at pre-owned Jag's, BMW's, Mercedes and Audi before deciding on the CTS.

I know there are a few other cars that you can buy new that may be a little less expensive than the CTS, but I have always liked the style of the CTS when it first came out. Thought about the V but I had owned 2 Corvette's and A Chrysler 300 and one of my goals was to reduce my debt so I compromised. Not to say owning a CTS is a compromise, but when you owned a performance sport car (Z06) it is a big change ;-)

I can't seem to find the answers to this searching the forums.

Does the 2011 have auto dimming headlights (or auto brights)? There is a sensor on the rear view mirror facing forward (front of the car) but I am not able to figure out for sure if it has auto bright lights or not. If it is not for auto bright lights then what is it for?

Welcome, Carl.

My Coupe also has that sensor on the back of the rearview mirror. My guess is that it is the sensor for the automatic headlamp control. My 2011 Coupe Performance Collection does not have auto dimming lights.

Congratulations-glad you bought American!! The electronic dimming is not available on the CTS. I had it on my STS and it was great-absolutely flawless in function. On the STS, the control unit for the dimming mirror is mounted windshield side behind the rearview mirror. It is a great feature that I miss. Enjoy your new CTS!!

Based on what chagrin falls has stated, maybe that's what that thing is on the back of the rearview mirror -- the auto mirror dimming control (for when headlights behind you shine in the mirror). My 2011 Coupe DOES have that feature.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

According to the manual the lights are activated by the little bubble on the dash?

What a shame that a $50K car doesn't have some the features a base DTS has LOL. But we are talking apples to oranges. While they were doing the paint/interior treatments to my CTS they gave me a DTS to drive and although the DTS was comfy and had a lot of options, I could not see myself driving one all the time LOL. Although my Z06 didn't have the option, but it did have a heads up display (I never used it though).

The CTS is quite a but smaller but the ride and handling are measurably different.

Some things I want to do or have already done, inclement weather in the Midwest and having the Cashmere and Coco interior, keeping the inside clean is and will be a struggle :) so I bought the WeatherTech Digital Floor mats they are very nice! And I plan on a new grille but I am not sure where to get one that I wouldn't be spending $1000 for one (I like the wire mesh grilles like on the CTS-V)
I am also doing the LED interior lights although the Premium has the LED accent lighting they still have those darn incandescent bulbs, yuck!
I am working with an eBay seller on a set of replacement bulbs as the 2011 is different than most the bulbs for previous models don;t seem to be the same. The seller has agreed to help me determine all the bulbs and then make them available to others.

In my area we are required to have a front plate, but I have taken it off to review 4 nice holes in my bumper. I have looked into having the bumper fixed and re-painted but I can't find it in my mind to have a brand new car painted! So I am looking into DIY bumper plugs, or flipping the plate mount over like some have done so it is not so obtrusive to the front end. Thoughts?

Come spring I have a EASE scan tool, so perhaps I will seek a tune as well. I have to say coming from a 505Hp Z06 the 3.6L is no slouch, it will sit you back in your seat (a little) ;-)

Something I forgot to mention that I also purchased a Escort 9500ix detector. I have seen a couple different after market mounts for them but the Escort has the 9500ix has a GPS and some have stated that some of those rear view detector mounts obscure the GPS in the top and the detector needs a clear shot of the sky through the windshield. So as I did with my Corvette and my Chrysler 300 I made my own mounts. I will take some pictures and post I think you will find that it is a better mount for this detector.

Hey Aka-I had the front plate braket removed by my body shop and had the "plugs" painted and installed. It looked exactly like it turned out-a quick, cheap fix. Anyhow, I had them fill the holes and then paint the front fascia. I also had them remove the rear fascia, smooth the textured gray panel and repaint same color as the car. IMO it made a HUGE difference. Total cost around $450.00. A few weeks later I had them install the E&G mesh grill for around $750.00. So for around $1,200. the car looks like I want it to look.

No pics but there are a few pics on here in previous threads. I purchased the car new in July 2010 and went with the heavy mesh grill from E & G-it was the same one I used on my STS-I just liked the scale of the mesh. I also bought a 3 piece set of clear tail lamps and installed them myself. I really like the clear and they are basically plug and play. I think they look great on any color CTS. I ended up selling the factory grille and tail lamps on eBay for $600.00. Keep us posted on what you do!
