hi all.....decided I need a new car after 140K on my 98 acura. narrow it down (through test drives and sticker price review) to a CTS or Infiniti G35C....(threw out HondaS2000, Boxster, BMW for different reasons).

leaning towards CTS...do a little google searching...JD Power site rates CTS only average overall quality...and when you put in your criteria (performance, long term value, etc etc)...you can't get the site to come back with CTS no matter how you put in your priorities...I keep getting Z4s, toyotas....and anywhere from 15-30 other cars they recommend....? strange since the cadillac sales rep was telling me about some recent JD Power award to cadillac??

i do some more searching....to a site called carreview.com...review the cadillac CTS section....out of 35+ posts (maybe only people with issues)....they rate CTS 2.8/5.0....citing everything from water leaks in car, to rattles and noises, to multiple electrical problems, to clocks in dash not in sync, headlights dont provide visbility, and on and on...only thing worse was the G35 replies...transmission replacements, synchro issues, etc.......

i need some help.....my acura still runs great....i need a push to get over what i read...can you help me?

thanks....rick

The CTS does seem to be somewhat problematic, with common problems around here being AC woes, and some other electrical gremlins...... I think we had one with a goofy rear end..... Cadillac does seem to have some difficulty with reliability of the first few years of a new model.........

I havent heard of the G35 being problematic, though...... Infiniti is rated no 2 in initial quality, behind lexus......

Try www.edmunds.com and see what you can come up with......

I have an '04 CTS with the 3.6L and Sports Package. I have never owned a car that combined luxury with the "fun to drive" factor better than the CTS. I look forward to drive it every day. The car does not have a single rattle, fit and finish is excellent as is the power and handling. It has impressed every person who I have taken for a ride. There may have been some issues in early 2003 models, but I beleive all of them have been resolved. You have to realize that most people who take the time to write a review are the ones with something to gripe about. Someone who is perfectly happy with cars do not take the time to write about it. If you research the professsional reviews in most auto publications, you will see that they are very positive. I know a lot of people in the car business in Miami, and while researching this car I found out that many of them had CTS's themselves. And everyone I spoke to was very happy with it. My son and daughter both have 2003 Audi A4's. They have had numerous recalls and problems. I would highly recommend that you go for the CTS. Odds are very high that you will be very happy.

Or just..... Infiniti :worship:

The G35 is a golden car, but the new Q is a keeper in my book, and since they cant get rid of them, you can get them for just a bit more than a G35..... Now, they have an aftermarket (but doesnt void warranty) supercharger that makes it faster than S55 AMG (I think, cant remember for sure)......

You CAN get the Q or the M for just over what the G costs...... Assuming a close to loaded G is about 35..... I have heard of people getting the M (im not confirmed on the Q, its not a huge seller) for the 38 range, pretty much standard.......... You could also get the I30 or I35......

The dealers cant sell em, so their clearing them out (the Q and M)..... The website doesnt show the TMV...... Just the MSRP......

I can't picture someone shopping for a G35 wanting a car the size of the Q. Just two different markets.

And the I35 is FWD - 'nuff said there.

The G35, somewhat rude interior (and, on the slushbox cars, badly-sited parking-brake pedal) aside, is a really sweet product.

Re: AC Probles

No No dont worry about it ull love it....the 2003's could have leaks in the rear footwell, (ie a puddle in the backseat footwell) but they fix it for free and u move on!)
Congrats and remember its never too early to start modding....

What were the AC problems???? I pick up my 04 on Saturday and now you guys got me thinking I made a bad decision......

Cadillac in general, and the CTS specifically were rated in the top five in J. D. Powers initial quality during the 2003 year. I think CTS is third in "near luxury." My local dealer has a 3% first year return rate for quality related issues. Mine hasn't been to the shop in 15 months except for a recall that showed no defect. I think you will be happy with your decision.

True, I've only had my car in for an oil change and the steering column recall for my 2003 CTS. Ends up the bolt was tight enough in the steering column, so the recall was more of a double check than anything else. Other than that, my 2003 has been pretty flawless. My only complaint is that the complimentary touch-up paint from my dealer took 5 months to arrive, but that's not the cars fault :)
