Hello All,
I am having an intermittent problem on my 2004 Escalade ESV. She has about 135k Miles and does not have any aftermarket alarms, radios, etc - bone stock. I noticed about a year or so ago the instrument cluster would stop working randomly, every gauge would be out. After driving the truck or turning it on and off a few times it would work again just fine. This was a very uncommon occurrence, maybe it would happen once every few months. So now the situation that brings me here. I parked somewhere to get a bite to eat, came back and it would not crank/start. I have been using it fine earlier in the day, so i know it was not battery related. I would turn the key on as to start, and all of the gauges would be out. After going through a series of turning the key off and on, disconnecting the battery, and some time, it just came back to life like nothing happened. no codes, no signs of trouble, all of the gauges working and displaying normally, not even a theft-lock light on the cluster. This problem lasted about 20 minutes before the truck was running again.
A few days later I took the caddy out of state and it did it again, same exact symptoms with no gauges and suddenly no crank/start. It left me stranded for two hours doing the same routine as before, but I took it a step further as some quick googling pushed me in the direction of the theftlock being a possible issue. I tried the key relearn trick, didn't work. I saw one person bypass their ignition wires and tried to do the same to no avail. I put the wires back, waited, and it just suddenly worked again.
Ive got it home, and now im not sure where to start to fix this. Currently the theftlock light is remaining lit, and has started fine since. Any ideas on how to diagnose/fix this?
Thanks in advance!
