This happened a few months ago, but I havent really been on the boards. So I'm at the dealership getting my car serviced, so while I wait, I head to the showroom and there is a beautiful XLR sitting there. The top is up and windows too, so I open the door and sit inside and shut the door. I sit there playing with buttons and turn the headlights on for a second, well I guess the battery was really low since it was in the showroom, and when I went to get out...THE DOOR WOULDNT OPEN! So I tried it again and it wasnt working, then i realized oh shit the battery probably died. So im sitting in the car wondering what to do, while each second that passes the XLR cabin is feeling smaller and smaller lol, so I finally knock on the window tryin to get the attention of the salesman who was sitting with a customer, first he looks and looks back, then I knock again and motion that Im stuck, LOL, they try to get the key fobs out and it wont work, so they tell me to pop the hood and they jump the battery with those portable jump starts system. The owner was joking that I better have my checkbook ready haha.

Overall it was pretty embarassing, but it really makes you think, I mean technology is cool, but when does it just become a stupid gimmick, what if I was in an accident in that car and the electrical system wouldnt work, how do you open the doors then? Im suprised somethign like that can pass safety standards.

Well im sure it was pretty funny too!
Umm, why do the doors lock you in anyway?
the doors dont have conventional handles, its a little button that sends an electrionic signal and they pop the door open, so since the battery was dead on the car, nothing worked, including the door popper.

Don't feel bad, I wouldn't call you names just because you didn't know the handles were there.
In fact probably 28 of the 30 guys I work with don't even know they are there. No one else at my dealership is permitted to work on XLRs because I am the only one who has all the training on them, and I didn't know the handles were there until I took one of the classes.
You should see a tow truck driver trying to get in to open the hood when the battery is dead. I get tired of telling tow truck drivers how to do it.

with a car that cost this much, it really shouldnt have to be towed period, it sounds like from the above post the battery dies alot. thats sad!
My battery hasn't felt very strong since day one (same felling that I had with my C5) but the car starts fine, even when the temp is below 20F.

There are a lot of mecahnical features on the XLR that can eat the battery. Raising and lowering the top when the car is off will get the job done real fast.

If you owned a Mercedes SL series car you'd never have a battery issue. There's one for starting and one for the electronics. I traded my Neiman Marcus for an SL55 AMG. The 493 horsepower is unreal. Why wait for the V when the Mercedes you can get now will outperform it in all areas.

you do realize the SL 55 carries a 35,000 dollar price differnce over a similarly equipped XLR V?? and you do realize both cars have almost the same acceleration times??
