According to the Service Manual with an information cutoff date of 02/09/09, it is called an 'isolator pad'. The drawings seem to show it just bolting right over top of the ribbed section that is scene on the earlier units. There doesn't appear to be any other opening under this pad.

Is it possible that the intercooler underneath the plate is softer/thinner. That way if there is overboost than if the dealer pulls the plate off they will see telltale signs of warpage. Think of the plate screwed on the intercooler just as a "cover" for the "overboost checking area"

The way it is bolted down, Looks like it may be a pressure limiter. If you over boost, it will make a bend on the side of the piece of metal and would show a taletell of too much boost in the plenum.
:tisk:

It is NOT an overboost blowout panel. It IS an acoustic damper added to reduce lid resonance.

I would love to see the data on this. If you put a microphone near the driver's headrest, what kind of db or frequency change could there possibly be over all rpm and load conditions? At least it shows that GM still has a development budget for the LSA which is good.

Anyone know if this cover will work with an 05 and maggie? I know it won't look the same as the 09 but I would like something to clean up the engine compartment and still show off the maggie.

Any help would be appreciated.

I just got a 2009 CTS-V and noticed the same thing about the isolator pad. The intercooler cover is sloted underneath mine. Personally, I like the old style intercooler cover; much cleaner looking. The isolator pad on mine is held down by socket head screws and looks like there is glue on the plate left behind from a label. I asked the dealership to show me their other CTS-V inventory and they all looked the same as mine. The executive administrator had a great observation it would be a good spot for an aftermarket vanity plate with a caddy insignia in gold!

I'm sure this is normal but my cover gets insanely hot. As anyone else just decided to run with these covers off. I've seen references that the cover also helps reduce engine noise. If that's the case, I AM removing it. MORE ENGINE NOISE PLEASE!

Mine was an 04/09 build and has the plate. I tapped on the plate and it seems substantial enough that it won't bend with the pressure increase you might get with an overboost. Seems more like an access cover for something. Maybe it is for a forced induction hood inlet, although its location under the brace is awkward. Possible that it is a production cover that is from some other application and is cheaper for GM to buy with the plate, instead of the ribs. I would go with the last answer as most likely. Occams Razor and all that.

Even though mine has a build date of 03/09, mine still came with the old style cover. It would be interesting to find the earliest reported build date with the new cover. Also, they might have had a lot of those in stock for future builds when the new one came out, and they used up the existing supply till it ran out.
