I have had my STS for about 5 months. In that time, I have noticed the Trunk Open message about 6 or 7 times after I started to drive away. The trunk was indeed open in all those occurences but not through my volition.

Maybe the open trunk key on my fob in my pocket was pressed when I sat down but then why not the Unlock door or Lock door keys?

I hope this is not a car malfunction and that it is only the Open trunk key on my fob being activated in my pocket.

Anybody else had any similar experiences?

I occasionally have a 'trunk open' notice but it is because the trunk was previously opened and it was not slammed down hard enough on closing to cause it to latch. Most of the previous Cadillacs I owned had an electric pulldown

This is very weird , I have owned 4 Cadillac’s since 1990 and all of them will not allow the trunk to open unless gear in Park or N position . I hope that the 2005 have this security measure . May any owner of the 2005 check and advice

Well this is wierd. I am in my 05 STS for almost 9 months and the day I read this trunk opening post, I get a trunk open message driving home tonight. I was well into my trip when the message poped up and I just cleared it. When I got home the trunk was open. What's up with this?

Didn't you know that anyone with analog OnStar and no Nav updates will get random trunk opens? :D

Seriously, I've had about 6 or 7 trunk opens thru nearly 3 years of my CTS and once with my STS in a month. I'm blaming it on my thumb  ,but really don't know.

I very rarely use my trunk. My open trunk occurrences are not related to a recent usage of the trunk. Also when I close the trunk, I slam it down because there is no pulldown.

malcomd's message got me thinking as to when I see the Open Trunk message. I don't remember if I ever saw one after I pushed on the ignition switch while I am parked. I think I would have noticed it before driving off.

I will be watching for the next occurrence and see when the message pops up.

BTW, it is a good thing that even though the trunk is open, the lid stays down and does not pop up to disturb my rear vision.

I keep a key ring in the same pocket as my FOB.
Sometimes the ring will bump the FOB and open my trunk or start the
horn honking. This only seems to happen when I am at home and the
car is in the garage.
If the horn starts I know it right away, if the trunk opens I find it the
next time I use the car.

I've had my 2005 STS approximately one month now and experienced three or four mysterious "trunk open" messages when I would have sworn that I didn't push the key-fob trunk release button. Then one day, after looking at the key ring I have, I noticed that one of the "rings" falls exactly on the trunk release button if you lay the key ring over the key-fob. I then realized that apparently, when putting the key ring and fob in my pocket, the key ring was hitting the trunk release button - causing my mysterious problem. Since changing my key ring, I've not experienced any accidental trunk openings. Also, to confirm, the trunk release on my car will not operate unless the car is in park or neutral.

Bingo! I have a fast release loop for my fob and if it is bent over the fob, it falls over the trunk open switch.
By Ricks! I think you've got it!
P.S. These forums are so good for exchanging ideas and solving problems.
