Previous owner broke off the black tabs that flank both sides of the key on the ignition cylinder. I have never seen these broken on a car before. I am assuming that I have to replace the ignition cylinder and have the dealer code the new key to fix. The cylinder for the manual cars is discontinued. What is the purpose of the button that lets you turn the key to the lock position? Can I put in a new cylinder for an automatic?

Same thing happened on mine. I also came to that conclusion (with help from this forum) that you would have to replace the whole lock cylinder. I just pulled off the broken soft cover which exposes the two plastic arms underneath that gave it support. They're black too so honestly it looks fine.

For the ones that don't have the button, there's a break in the outer part. I wonder if you can bend it enough to swap onto your current lock w/o having to rekey? Or cut it in half and superglue it back together in place?
