I have a 2005 Escalade and I'm getting close to 100,000 miles and starting to get some play in steering and side to side jump when hitting bumps could this be the idler and pitman arm need to be replaced? I just did all new shocks and just want the truck to ride like it should any ideas on brands for these parts? Any help would be appreciated.

I dont think the pitman arm is bad, because i just replaced mine: pitman arm, tire rod ends and steering shaft.. And I still jump side to side when i hit bumps. Not sure what the idler arm does? any info anyone on what would cause this jump? is it normal???

I was told if you replace the pitman arm you should replace idler arm and idler bracket assembly and I thought if I do that I'm going to replace inner and outer tie rods also

yes, you will need to replace both the pitman and the idler arm, possibly the pivot too. I would honestly use the genuine GM parts like I did, on this project. They may be a bit more but worth it. The Pitman can be bought off brand like at autozone though. When you buy the idler arm from GM, it comes attached already to the idler pivot. I replaced the ilder pivot/arm, the pitman, and both of the tie rod arms and tie rod ends and it made a trmendous difference in handling and feel. Of course in replacing all of the parts I realized afterwards that I had a slight jiggle left in the steering gear itself, which I will replace sometime this spring.

What about Moog parts I found a website where I can get pitman, idler arm, idler bracket assy and inner and outer tie rods for 352.12 shipped does that sound like a good price and are Moog parts quality?

I went the aftermarket parts way the first time around with my front end and found that pretty much all of them were inferior to the GM parts but especially the idler arm pivot and I got it from GM parts on a wholesale deal for right at about $150 with the idler arm already attached. I originally put one in that came from NAPA auto and it went out literally in 2 days, got all loose just like the original. Put the GM one in and it is still as tight as new 10,000 miles later. Sometimes you really do get what you pay for.

there was a redesign and the aftermarket hasn't started selling the second design yet... not sure if they ever will if they haven't already

so you will have to buy both since the gearing is different

My truck is at the same mileage. What type of shocks did you use, and how do you like them?

I used the Bilstein gas shocks they ride a little stiffer than stock but 100% better than having to deal with air ride crap. I also just ordered the Bilstein springs too they say you have to use them to stay at the factory ride height.

Is the new design any stronger? I greased mine regularly and they are both bad right where they connect to the draglink. I can twist the draglink back and forth which causes the front wheels to toe in/out. It seems like they should last forever if they are greased regularly.

If you can move your drag link they need to be replaced I just did my pitman, idler and idler assy wasn't that difficult and I also did the inner and outer tie rods sway bar links and bushings rides alot better now.
