Ice Possible

alright, as the weather is getting colder here in michigan, i've noticed that whenever i start my car, the DIC has been displaying, "WARNING, ICE POSSIBLE" (press clr to continue)

this probably occurs when the temp gets below 32 or something, but i was wondering if this warning coming on every single time i start my car is normal. thankfully, if i leave it and don't press clear, it just goes away naturally after about 3 seconds or so. out of curiousity, do the people in the cooler temps get this warning habitually?

I get it but not with every start up. I just let it time itself out. It means the conditions are right for ice but 9 time out of 10 there is no ice.
right, i know it's just a precaution, but it's like, dude...chill out. i know it's cold, i know there could be ice, now leave me alone.

You see, we are whats known as the Cadillac Elite who use this thing called common sense to figure things out on our own. That warning is there for the types of people who sue mcdonalds b/c the squeezed a scalding-hot cup of coffee between their legs and burned themselves, or filed the lawsuit which resulted in packages of peanuts on airlines having to have the label, "warning: contains nuts".
They all do it, its about 37° F that triggers this warning.

My GMC truck has the same feature but its on the compass/temp mirror display, just says ICE
as did my 2001 GMC, my 1996 Chevy truck with compass mirror had the same feature.
i hope to go my entire life and never see that warning :) i am a Florida boy and inted to stay one. i hope everyone has a good and safe holiday weekend
My 2000 STS has that message come on at 35 degrees. I think it's pretty standard on Cadillacs.
when you guys are all saying at or around 35 degrees, do you mean any instance below that as well? this morning my temp gauge said it was like 25 ish and it still comes on. i don't really mind it THAT much, but every time i start the car from now until february i don't want to see an ice warning.

We've only had a few mornings that cold so far here but if its anything like other cars I've driven, the "Ice Warning" message will come up every time you start when its below its mid-30's threashold.

Yep, it's gonna pop up every time my friend, you'll get used to it and it will filter into the background just like the beeping noise when you first start the car.
well thats good. it's always nice to hear that your car isn't exhibiting some random behavior compaired to the masses...unless it's outputting, say, 50 HP above normal...i wouldn't complain about that...
I got it the first time the other night, and was actually excited at first. I was like, 'Thanks for looking out Caddy'. But now after seeing every morning, I get the hint. Cold=ICE.:banghead:

Question, though, if I hit ice and slide and the tranction control initiates, does it say 'Told ya so, dumba$$'
Yeah I get the warning all the time... It just adds to the flustering mess of "bing!" noises that damn thing makes. The other day was a perfect example. First it bings because my coolant level sensor is faulty (it thinks its low spiratically), then I get a bing b/c Im not wearing my seatbelt yet, then it bings because Its low on gas, then again it tells me im not wearing my seatbelt, then the coolant level bings, then the ice warning bings, then the low gas again, etc, etc... This thing drives me NUTS!!! Especially when its 6am, and I just got up and am on my way to get gas thats 5 min. from my house and the speed limit is 30km/h, so i dont bother putting my seatbelt on.

Anyone else had this frickin binging sensation of insanity before?? Is there no way to shut the damn thing off?
thats weird, mine doesn't "bing" at all. i think i disabled it somehow, or mine doesn't have the noise with the warnings. my fuel light came on during a recent trip home from up north and i didn't get a bing.

the only thing i remember changing was going into the personal options and unchecking the box that said something like, "advanced warning noise" or "enhanced warning noise" or something like that towards the bottom of the list. now it doesn't annow me when i open my doors either. it was LOUD.

Yeah I think they set it to "enhanced" from the factory since the "more traditional" cadillac owners tend to be hard of hearing. I turned that on initially when I got my car, then changed it back about 5 minutes later. Most of the time I dont even notice the "bings" now.

I left it on enhanced for a while but then trurned it off since I typically use the door controls to "time lock" my doors (it's quieter than the horn when i'm at home, but I like the loudness of the horn when i'm out) the 3 beep door lock is rather annoying
it would be fun to see the 'ice warning', but doubful here in San Diego! I'm looking forward to my roadtrip over New Years to Utah for skiing....so this So Cal car better get with the best of yours and join in with the appropriate driver warning. I'll expect no less!! Of course, the car will deal with the ice better the me!!!! It's nice to know we have regional diffences with our similar autos. Gee, I wonder if my DIC has a "surf's up" message. I'll let you know if I see it!!
I've noticed that when ( ice possible ) is displayed that I also have what sounds like a pop in the dash. Does anyone else have this?

Leon
i don't get that the pop...atleast from what i've seen...

on a lightern note, the car was a blast to drive in the snow last 2 days. i had it sideways (playing) and it handled nicely. i was leary about the stabilitrak but i was impressed with how it worked pretty fast to correct problems...
