i drove home this evening in a 06 slk-55 amg and have to admit the thing is probably a little quicker than the v. anyone run the newest version of the slk55? damn thing requires no skill what so ever to launch, just point it in the right direction and mash the throttle. nice car to borrow, could not see buying one though.

An SLK-55 weighs approx 500lbs less and costs 25K more and has two seats. Why don't you compare it to a Corvette.

There isn't another car in its class that gives as much bang for the buck so people make ridiculous comparisons.

Can you imagine how many they would have sold if it was available in a stripped down version?

I'm currently lusting a 2006 CLS55. MB certified to 100K miles, under 15,000 miles on the odo and $68,000. 12.5 second quarter mile. Actually pulls .93g, not bad for a 4,300lb. pig.

Guess what?!? The Bugatti Veyron is faster than the V too!!!

C'mon man...

I could go spend $300 in groceries at Costco in my V, pull up at the street light with your little chrysler roadster, and still make an appearance.

Would I win??? Probably not... But I am going home with 120 condoms (it's a little more money, but it's the better value  )

not trying to stir up trouble, but on the mercedes website they are listed at 63,700 and my v listed for 54,400. i was simply comparing ability in the performance area. and yes, the e55's are even more insane. i still enjoy the v's six speed tranny over any automatic.

I know where there is a 2002 red Vette Z06 in San Antonio for sale--approx 2,500 miles (accurate). I drove it. It does not have a parking lot chip on it. Email or pm me if interested. Owner does not use internet much. Price in low 30's, which is decent for the miles.

I started looking at these about 6 months ago and waiting for them to get realistic. Well, they've gotten there. Now that the CLS63 is out. Now you starting wondering if you should wait a year for the 63's to come down in price. LOL, it's just vicious what your mind will do to you. I see no reason to buy an E55/E63 when the CLS looks so much better. The CLS actually sits .4" lower and corners better than the E if you can believe it. Now if you can find the 030 package, that's the one with better brakes and 186mph top speed. There's one on ebay for $77K but a forum member says it's beat. There's another for $65K but it's a MB buyback and title says so (no resale). Wait until the C63 comes out, that thing is going to be nuts. I dare say that only a CTS-V with 550HP or more could take this one on.

Thats a great deal 14 months ago i bought my cls55 for 87K with 3k on the O.D.
Car has been great, i love it. but it is not as "fun" of a car as the V was.
the luxury and power are awesome though.

No probs mentioning anything. But go and now add things to you MB that's already in the V like the stereo and DVD Nav, also don't forget to add the AMG package to your AMG car (it's not included in the base price) when you see your price approaching 75K+ you'll be on target ;)

saw one of those run 13.5 at 103.....yes 103......I feel like it just gets going real well from the 60 foot. I think from a roll, it would be a great race.
