I just bought a 92 Eldorado with 114000 miles on it and the AC blows warm.......

I get a message on the dash that says the ac systems is low on refrigerant or something like that so I bought this freeze 12 kit on ebay.

Is there any trick to recharging the system with this stuff or is it pretty easy?

Is it likely that there is a leak in the system on a car this old?

I'm looking for a cheap fix because this is pretty much a budget car for me so I'm not going to a mechanic to have it checked.

It is not uncommon to have to add freon in 5 years or so. You could just need a top off. The only way to tell if there is a leak is with a dye or electronic sniffer. Sometimes you can see an oily residue near a leaky fitting.

When the system is low it disables the compressor to protect it. When you get set up to recharge it, you need to clear the code to enable the compressor or it will not take the charge.

How do you "cleat the code"?

I looked at the message today and it said regrigerant very low and ac compressor off
Ah geez. Can't believe I typed that. I meant "clear" the code. I have corrected it. Check the Tech Tips section for a "How To" pull the codes. It will also tell how to clear them.
I just re-charged the AC in my 92 Eldo - All I did was charge it with the freon, I did not have to clear the codes for it to start working again. She's been ice cold for two months now!

In that case, yours was not low enough to disable the compressor in that case.
