We went and bought a 1994 Deville 4.9 - 130,000 mi
It has NINETY SPECIAL By E&G on a badge; i think that just refers to the "Landau" vinyl top treatment.
There are no codes and it runs and drives great.

Anyway as normal it has a few issues. I searched but found nothing really.
Here are a couple of my head scratches.

> Right rear window taped up.
Any known common problems here?

> The outside temperature gauge reads about 120 degrees.
So it is leaving the vent open (It was a cold ride home).
Where would a person start looking?

Thanks

Re: I have issues

Outside temp sensor usually in front of radiator. Unplug and see what happens.

It's probably bad then. Not uncommon for them to fail. At least vent should stay closed hopefully until you get another one.

Re: I have issues

Ok
The service manual has nothing much to say about it ether.
Just that it exists and its information is added to certain calculations.

I will go out here and get one off the parts mobile and let you know what happens.
Thanks

Re: I have issues

Well you got that one.
Swapped the sensor out with one off our parts mobile and it seems to be functioning again - That was easy.

Re: I have issues

Look at valet switch in glove box if gas and trunk switches don't work.
No common window issues I have seen on those years. Only issue may be window switch bad, but who knows until you get it apart.

Re: I have issues

thanks

Not the valet switch.

Good to know on the windows.
Maybe it will be something simple.

Had a go at the drivers door - power door lock actuator - today.
I got it working but it is weak pushing.
Looks like it will be tons of fun to replace.

Power door lock actuator
I have searched everywhere and i can not get a good idea of how hard this task will be.
Anyone been in there can give me some insight - tips?

If the weather is good i may get to that rear window today.

Got the passenger side rear window fixed today.
It was just the motor.
Even pulling another motor off the partsmobile it was still quick and easy.
Probably easier than there tape job. Did not take long with a razor blade to clear the tape residue.

Still not informed enough to tackle that Power door lock actuator.
No one has been there before?
To hard to explain?
The service manual does not really say much about the procedure.

The repair list is getting shorter.

Re: I have issues

It's buried for sure. You might try lubing the bushing before tearing it out, those little plastic connectors can wear and start sticking.

Look at valet switch in glove box if gas and trunk switches don't work.
Got some remote fobs programmed to the vehicle.
The trunk release works with the fob.
Nothing from the dash switch - These service manuals are stubborn to get info out of.
The fuel door release is all jacked up; looks like i will be replacing most all of those parts in the trunk.

Picked up some silicone lube - i will have another go at that driver’s door lock actuator.
The manual finally revealed there belief that the door must be gutted to replace the actuator.
While i am in there cleaning and lubing i will see what else i can see:)

Re: I have issues

:suspense:Next problem:suspense:
Having trouble figuring out what all these radiator lines and coolers are.
Also having trouble getting pictures up:bigroll:
Lets see i can type you into it.

Radiator has 6 connections with two coolers out front
1> Passenger side = upper and lower hard lines - Look like transmission lines to me - lower radiator hose

2> Front of radiator coolers on drivers side they are stacked out -
radiator then what looks like a trans cooler - then what looks like a power steering cooler

3> My problem area - Drivers side - upper radiator hose
upper and lower lines that look like power steering pressure lines.
The lower line is leaking bad onto the ABS unit.
What is leaking looks like engine oil.

I can not fix it if i am unable to name it.

Thanks

Re: I have issues

Bump
I do not think the name of the post is conducive to getting help?
But i thought i could keep most of the isues with this vehicle in one place.

The Service manual is very difficult to extract knowlege from.
It say it could be a oil sending pipe (well Duh) - maybe trans axle oil cooler

Thanks

Re: I have issues

Found them:)
They are engine oil cooler lines.
I did not take the air filter box off; so it made it hard to see they go to the oil filter housing.
After i figured out what they are supposed to be and looked at it again i can pretty much figure where they are going.
So the lower one is inlet and the upper one is outlet
About 100.00 for the pair.

Thanks

Trying to understand it as i try to conquer its bugs.
These affordable older ones always come with issues.
Guess that is half the fun:)

Still would like to know what all those coolers are.
Maybe while i am rooting around in there i can trace some of them.

Looks like everything on the drive belt end is shot except the alternator and the A/C compressor.
The power steering pump may pass inspection. But while i am there i will just change it.

Thanks for checking on me:)

It sounds like you have identified all the coolers already, but here they are:

Radiator, Pass side: Trans fluid
Radiator, Driver side: Oil cooler
Cooler in front of radiator: power steering fluid

----------

Keep in mind, if the trans fluid or oil coolers are leaking at the radiator connection, don't try to fix it by tightening them. There is a rubber O-ring inside the connection that can be replaced. These connections should not be torqued too tight, or you will damage the fittings.

Those hoses also go bad with age. I have a leak from one of them right now. The other half of it that goes from under the air filter to the oil filter housing already had to be changed a few years ago.

Did the water pump - lower radiator hose - tensioner and idler pully with new belt today.
Was not to bad of a job. All the bolts were loose and the cardboard gasket had failed.
Took some pictures and notes as there does not seem to be a lot of info about the task.
If i can figure out how to post pictures i may do a write up.

Going to put the power steering pump off and see how it does. I did not see a lot of power steering leakage (just some).
I did notice someone did an intake manifold job on it and it has puked the end gasket out:(
have to put that on my list of things to keep an eye on.
