My 2008 STS Cadillac has a rattle in the driver side door for some time. The rattle is around the window controls and the wood trim. If I press on the instrument controls, the rattle will stop.

I have removed the door panel previously to fix an item, but am curious if anyone has removed just the wood trim piece on the door? I think it might just pry off, but don’t want to break anything. I want to remove the trim piece so I can put some silicone or other noise dampening material between the instrument cluster and trim.

Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

The wood veneer adheres to a plastic assembly with posts on the bottom. When the door panel is assembled, the trim piece is installed and the plastic posts are melted down, almost flush against the mating piece in the door panel. Taking this apart will mean you need to find a new way to reattach the trim piece that the wood is bonded to. The window switches come out from underneath so you don't need to remove this trim to take them out.

Thanks ddalder. I will try to take the door panel off again and drop the instrument cluster out from the bottom. then I can see about putting some material to stop the rattling.
