My parkingbrake isn`t working properly anymore. This is a problem when I park in small inclines, the car moves slightly forward.

Is it a simple fix that I can do myself? I do brakepads, rotors, bulbs, exhaustpipes and stuff like that...

the best to all of you cadillacdrivers out there,
JD

Re: how to adjust parkingbrake?

This uses a "drum in hat" style park brake. To adjust it you have to remove the rear brake rotors.
You have to remove the rear brake caliper BRACKET. You can leave the calpier attached but be careful as the pads can fall out.
(no biggie if they do just put them back in the way they were.
The service manual calls for red loctite on the bolts and torque to spec when reinstalling.
You don't want to adjust these like the old drum brake style shoes, don't make them drag on the rotor hat but turn them several clicks and check for a fit.
It's okay if you hear them drag a little.
Usually this type of shoe needs to be snugged up every now and then.
Kind of a painful procedure but certainly doable.

You are most certainly welcome.
Make sure to get the red loctite and find the torque specs if you have a wrench.
Trust me, you don't want those bolts coming out!

I just did the right side. I do think it helped a little. My issue is that I couldn`t determine which way to turn the little round silver thing that clicks and is suppose to adjust the shoe.

Is it suppose to be turned to the right or left when looking from the rear end, towards the front of the car?
I did, after trying each way a few times, decide that it probably is to the right, but Im not completely sure.

Can somebody tell which way to turn it? I turned it around approximately 4 times, should I turn it more?

All replies are appreciated!

The adjusters have a right hand thread.
You can see the small plunger move out or in after a few clicks, look at the small gap between the adjuster wheel and the plunger that contacts the shoe.

ewill3rd, again, thanks for you replies! Everything worked out excellent today when I did the other side. I don`t know how I managed to oversee that the plunger easily moves up and down when turned around...Im a little embarrassed about that. However, thank you!
