Well it was an interesting experience to say the least. More like oil change from hell. Bought two 5 quarts of Mobil 05/30 and filter cartridge. Took off the engine shroud. Removed the oil filter cap and thought that is neat, my first car with an oil filter cartridge. Looked under the car for the oil plug. Thought turning the wheel to the left would make easier access to the plug. Turned ignition on and turned wheel. Awww crap oil came out the filter cartridge. BP oil spill in the driveway. Hop in Escalade to Walmart and get some kitty litter. Clean it up after oil change, move CTS back out of oil spill, jack up passenger side a little, unscrew oil plug and normally drop plug in the round oil catch pan. Oil shoots over the pan, plug in catch pan, move over catch pan, no prob, just a little more oil to clean up with kitty litter. 6 quarts of oil draining into pan, then notice pan is overflowing!!!!!! Freaking oil plug was plugging up the center drain hole, lol another BP oil spill in the driveway, luckily I bought a big bag of kitty litter. Replace oil plug, replace filter cartridge and tighten both.

Open first 5 quart bottle of oil and start filling with big mouth funnel. Who the heck designs and oil neck with a 90 degree turn at the very top???? A little clean oil overflows. Geez. Attempt to open the second 5 quart bottle....it was impossible!!! I'm pretty good at opening bottles and things, but it wasn't happening by hand. Used screwdriver and claw hammer to get the lid off. Notice a hazy look on the foil and around the inside of the cap. Hmmm? Tear into the foil seal and see on the bottom of the foil Nescafe, Taster's Choice wording????? Look at oil, it's dark old oil and smells old too!! WTH?? Somebody super glued that lid and foil on after using the oil and putting their old oil in back in the bottle. No wonder I couldn't open it by hand. Wow, what a low life wouldn't do to scam/steal $27.

Back in the Escalade, back to Walmart, and exchange for another 5 quart bottle of Mobil One. Luckily I didn't toss the receipt like I normally do, although it's not necessary to have a receipt for return or exchange at Walmart, but it sure helps my story and not make me look like the scammer/thief. Added another quart at home.

Then had to kitty litter two BP driveway oil spills twice to soak it all up and make the driveway presentable again.

Just a little humor for y'all. BTW, I've changed my own oil since my first car back in the late 80's and do most of my maintenance/repairs on my cars, I know right? :) I do have 2 93 RX-7's that I modify and maintain, money pit garage queens. The Escalade and now the CTS. I think I've bought a new motorized vehicle every year since 2003 whether it be 2 wheels or 4 wheels. I need to stop buying and selling.

Gonna stay with the Escalade and CTS for awhile and just play with the 93 Mazda RX-7. Have one RX-7 sold in a few months to my nephew.

This is my toy....

WOW. The worst I ever had happen to me was I was putting in the second quart of oil when I realized I hadn't put the drain plug back in. That was many years
ago.
I wonder how many times the creep pulled his oil stunt.

When I was in high school in 1963 my dad was trying to teach me to change the oil in my 1957 Chevy. I managed to strip the drain hole trying to put the plug back in after draining the oil. We went to the auto parts store and got an over-sized plug designed just for idiotic mechanics. I managed to strip it again with that one! Fortunately the store had a double-over-sized plug but warned us that if I did it again, I'd have to buy an new oil pan. Dad put that one in.

People buy all kinds of stuff and drain and refill/return it. We had a guy cutting antifreeze and return it. I swear it's 10 bucks labor for 2 dollar item. Autoparts it happens all the time. I always open every box on the counter. Annoys the shit out of them but I do catch a few returns and used parts.

That kind of thought/ripoff just never crossed my mind. Unbelievable! I always stock up on Mobil1 when Costco has their specials.

Oh Jeez, I laughed through this whole story. Just not your day. Thanks for sharing it. Been there myself, there are days all the planets line up and everything goes without a hitch and then there are.......BP oil spills.
Hot rides! Love the Mazda's, have an MX5 myself.

I wouldn't waste my money. That being said, someone recently mentioned it aids in the cooling of your engine, but I am not sure.

I had a very similar oil change story... Decided to change the oil first on my truck. First time I have done that on the truck... I put hybrid synthetic for high mileage in it. Opened the center drain on the catch container, pulled out the oil plug on the back of the oil pan (after looking it up online. I looked all over the front and sides. Go figure that in a 4wd chevy pickup the oil drain and filter would be in the back..)

Jacked up the truck to access the rear of it since with side steps I just can't get up under there...

Had the plug out and jumped up to grab my oil filter wrench.. Got back down on the driveway to pull off the filter... The oil catch pan did the same thing. Had oil streaking down the driveway... About a 4' long puddle of oil...

Wrestled with the oil filter.. Those suckers are right up next to the engine housing. The filter wrench I used kept catching on a brace and I couldn't get the filter loose. So made a run to the parts store for a small oil filter wrench and some oil dry... Luckily they had it on sale for $5 for a 50lb bag...

Got that all done...
Then worked on the CTS... No issues with the oil filter... (I do agree about the 90degree turn)
I also am missing the shroud off the bottom of my car. Not sure why... I swear it was there when I bought the car...

Anyhow I figured my catch can was short enough I could just slide it under the car. Of course when I pulled off the oil drain the oil shot out over the catch can so I lost probably a half quart before I got it under there... I had covered the oil slick in the driveway and had the car up further so I wouldn't have to lay in it.. SO now it is a 5' long oil slick...

Rained for most part of 3 days... Left my truck parked over the oil absorbent to try keeping it from washing away... Weather report said no rain for 3 days so I left the driveway in the sun to dry off the absorbent.

That night as I was leaving work for my 45 minute drive home rain was showing on the radar.. Would be there in about an hour...
So I rush home, sweep up the still slightly damp absorbent... And downpours just as I am finishing up...

Nice long oil mark in the driveway now... Girlfriend said her pressure washer doesn't work well... I was thinking the pressure washer would get the rest of the stain out...

Oh did I mention to begin with my GF said to just take it to have the oil changed? Tried to tell me would only cost $20 for full oil change... Oil cost me like $50 between the two vehicles alone... So anyhow... She told me I better not get a drop on the driveway and I promised I wouldn't...

Yea... Fun times...
