Hi,

I've got a '99 Sedan DeVille with 94K miles. We love it.
I've started getting a continous MIL warning: "Service Engine Soon". It's running just fine.
I pulled the codes, nothing there but this: PCM P0741.
Does that equal TCC System Stuck Off? and what does TCC mean? Torque Converter Clutch?
Can anyone give me a ballpark on repair cost.
Many thanks
pat

Correct on all counts. It is a $20 part buried $2000 deep in the trans. There are numerous threads on it if you do a search. The good news is that it is a condition you can live with.

Hi, and thanks you guys for the great info. I've been on for the last two hours reading all the threads.
I really like the idea with the threaded rods, Mr. Turbo was also right on. I also have tag inspection coming up in April, so I plan on the third gear plan. I think, from what was posted, I'll take my chances with driving a few more miles. Some guys are going thousands with not much trouble. Then, I'll either have a TCC installed, or
a rebuilt tranny installed or just sell to the highest bidder.
But I have one question, on clearing codes. How do you do it? I know, it's simple but I'm not sure. I read them and got to the "PCM?" section then turned off the ign.
Thanks in advance.
Best regards,
Pat

First enter diagnostics with (OFF + WARMER) then to clear codes for PCM it's OFF + HI (simult.) until a letter followed by zeros. For the BCM it's OFF + LO similar with zeros You have OBDII but I think it's the same as OBDI. . Wait 10 seconds before entering DM again. Press "AUTO" or "IGN off" to exit DM

OR just disconnect your battery for a few minutes and that'll do it too. LOL!

Hi guys,

Is it me or is the trans dip stick hidden??? I'm trying to check the level.

Also, I've got two other codes that appear along with the evil PO-741. PO-1527 says Transmission Range to Pressure switch Correlation. Is that anything to do with the 741?
and a history code: U 1000 class 2 comm malfunction. I assume that might have to do with an fender bender I had a couple of years ago. I know for sure they disco'd the batt.
Thanks again.

The "dipstick" is actually more like that P/S stick. It's built into the cap and is located on the transmission side cover (under the air intake duct). Check it warm, and idling on level ground.

Not sure if that other code is related or not.

The "U" code would have cleared itself by now if it was from a couple of years ago. If it is historical, it was set withing the last 50 ignition cycles. If it is current, then it was set in the last 3.

Hi Ranger,

Thanks for the info. I found the trans stick. They don't make it easy. (grin)

At least now, I can limp along and fudge the smog test.
Does anyone know for sure that they hook up to the OBD
in NC?

THanks pat
