How fast was your ticket for?

Got caught going 151mph just a little north of Adelanto, CA on 395. Sh_t, at that point in the road its wide open for 60 miles without a cross street or turn off, I thought that I would really try out the "V." The long and short of it is I spent two days in jail (not pretty) for going three times the speed limit and had my liscence revoked on the spot. Any other "Hard Times" out there? I'm still licking my wounds and can only hope I'm not the lonely wounded one!

Damn that sucks. I hope things look up for you. I don't have a CTS or a V but I have gotten a ticket for 110 in a 70 zone. Was it smart or safe?? No, but I just wanted to see how far I could push my car. (93 Regal GS)
No tickets in the V yet. Not quite sure how... Have a K40 though, so hopefully I wont get too many tickets. No radar detector is 100% effective though. Eyes are the more effective. Early mornings seem to be the best time to speed for me. Nobody's on the road, but the sun is still out, so you're not putting people in jeopardy, and you can see whats around you so you will see a sneaky ass cop that your radar might miss.

Ah, what's it's like to drive at 150+ mph.
luckily, I didn't get caught though.
Won't be doing that for a very long time.
If you are doing a buck fifty and the radar didin't go off, your finished. If you see the cop at that speed it's to late brother. Valentine 1, nothing is 100% but the V1 increases your chances of survival. I picked up a cop once from about 3/4 of a mile away! Plenty of time to slow down.

I'm thinking about picking up a V1. Where would be the best place to get one for a good price?
You can only get a Valentine from the manufacture directly.

http://www.valentine1.com

There are 3 Top Detectors and you cant go wromg with either of them.

Valentine 1 - $399
Escort 8500 x50 - $299 (Red Display) $339 (Blue Display)
Beltronics RX65 - $329

If you are open to a unit other than the V1 let me know because I have given forum members some very good deals.

As for speeding tickets I have not received a ticket in over 12 years. Can't say its because of the radar detectors because I have been pulled from an instant on hit with a detector. The sargents family badge that's in my wallet has saved me every time.

I had a $300 Best Buy gift card that I got for Christmas a couple years back...they didn't really have anything I wanted so I got the Escort 8500 (the x50 wasn't available back then). Best use of a gift card ever.
Here is Texas you cannot be arrested for speeding. I got a 165 in a 55 ticket from a state trooper last year. Just got a ticket and went on my way, ended up talking to the judge and getting the fine reduced to $200 and probation to keep it from going on my record.

Worst speed I ever did was 165mph (GPS logged) on my Ducati in Conn., coming home from a two day race-weekend at NHIS. We were flat-out at 1pm in the afternoon on a Monday, very few cars on the parkway. A cop on the other side must have radio'd to a trooper in front of us, because he pulled his car sideways and blocked the parkway. We pulled over, took our helmets off and were greeted by a VERY pissed off trooper. He said people were calling in on their cell phones...The other cop pulled in and came out pretty pissed, too...but, when he saw that we were riding Ducatis, he was all questions. Asking about Laconia's bike week and the National Races. I explained to him that we raced over the weekend and were a little too pumped at such a great time we had. He said he couldn't get the laser gun up fast enough, so he had no idea how fast we were going but that we were "hauling ass". He also said that the bikes sounded fantastic, if just a bit loud. They wrote us two $75 speeding tickets that didn't go on our liscences, no insurance bump. I thanked him and he thanked us back for stopping, as he really didn't want to call the helicopters on us!!!!!
I believe that if he raised that radar/laser and saw how fast we were really going, I would have been in jail.

I just ordered the V1 since I heard it's best working one out there.
What is it good for? I know it's a radar detector but what sepcifically?
I've had a few other detectors before but the V1 is the best. Instead of just beeping it tells you where its coming from, or if its another detector going off. I'm telling you that awareness of your surroundings is the best way to avoid the police however it is a great tool to help you see what you can't. Just dont rely on it.
I was wondering about also picking up a radar jammer which I know there illegal.
But, the one I'm intrested can be very easily hidden inside your cars engine.

Worse one yet was in Kansas in a Cannonball Run style rally. They didn't actually pull me over but got an average of my speed by plane which was a little over 200mph in a 30 minute period. I stopped later on for a smoke break and that's when it got ugly. The situation was not pretty but I will make it short. Straight to jail at gunpoint with a cash bond of $75,000 and facing 18 months in jail. After a lot of bargaining with the judge and lawyers the charges were dropped with a $5,000 fine.

If you don't mind buying used, check out Ebay. There's usally quite a few of them available. Otherwise, you have to buy directly from Valentine. I've owned many radar detectros and the Valentine 1 is BY FAR the best out there and has saved my ass many a time.
I was driving a legal 155mph in my 96 T/A. Ok I was in Germany so it was legal. I just got done outrunning an Alpina BMW. I kept toying with the guy until we hit a long upgrade when I put it up to 155mph and he was history.

At least up till the next rest area when he start asking tons of questions about the car.

I wouldn't own a radar detector. You are just asking to get pulled over if a cop sees one on your dash. He might not pull you over for speeding either. There is something like 317 driving violations in Utah. I'm sure we all break one of them everytime you drive.

I believe you'll find that you can be "arrested" in Texas for speeding, BUT(a big "BUT"...LOL)...you can not legally be taken to jail for that infraction IF(a big "IF")...you have a Texas Drivers License. If you do not have a Texas Drivers License, you "ass is grass and the Police Officer's is a Power Mower"...(read "You can be taken to jail")...but it's not mandatory...it's the Police Officer's call...if he thinks you will not flee the state...and that's VERY RARE. :yup: As for me, it all depends on the drivers attitude, traffic conditions, road conditions and/or hazzards and how well the driver was handling the speed at which he was driving and the condition of his car. If the driver was nice, and no traffic or entrance ramps, and was driving a V... :histeric: , we'll just probably stand around and talk cars for 5 or 10 minutes...with a "Be careful now" as we depart.

Got a ticket for going 105 on my motorcycle years back. The cop must have been trailing me with his lights off, because there was just nothing but darkness behind me. It was a CHP, so he just gave me a ticket and told me to be careful.
