I am asking because today I went into work, to go back out for lunch, back two feet out and realize my V1 was gone. The suction cups with he attatchment was still there, partially ripped off, and the AC adapter was on my front seat still. I'm still a ilttle dazed by the whole thing. Security and tha Police think I left the car unlocked, I couldn't tell you for sure. Anyway, after hey left I sat in my car locked it with the fab, unlocked it using the door button, opened the door - nothing. Ok. Then I locked it again with the fab, unlocked it by manually unlocking the little thing that goes up and down on the door, opened it - nothing. Two years ago I asked the dealer to turn on the alarm, I guess they didn't or does it just not work with this car.

What works for yous guys? Does it beep, what do you have to do to prompt it to beep?

I know this isn't Heavy's rims, but I don't want to go out to the lot to find my car gone.

The cops and security said its popular for thieves to now just steal stuff quick. Not many to no reported cars stolen recently. I guess be careful what you leave in sight.

:crybaby: All that for an Escort 8500 X50 perched waaay up near the headliner. The glass also left several scratches on the steering wheel leather that will never come out. At least the paint was okay.

There are 2 ways to arm the alarm if it is functioning properly.

Here is how to test it.
Roll down the driver's window, use the power lock switch or the remote keyless transmitter (fob) to lock the doors.
The security light will come on, close the door and wait for the security light to go out.
Now manually lift the lock knob and open the door.
The lights should flash and the horn will sound.
You must wait for the security light to go out first or the alarm will not sound.

Just an FYI - and it happened to me where I work in broad daylight 6 months after I bought my "V."

Some low-lifes punched out the keylock into the door (later found it in the door frame), opened the door and ransacked the interior of my car. They only took a few dollars cash I had on the visor and my owner's manual before they were scared off by some salesmen coming into my office.

To make this brief - the alarm did not go off! And it is functioning perfectly - apparently, punching the lock out temporarliy disables it. Mu dealer reported this to GM but I never heard anything about it.

By the way, we caught it on video and the whole process, from punch-out to escape, took 1 minute and 42 seconds before the salesmen scared them off!

I hide my V1 when parked in an area I don't consider safe. Home, work, and some friends' houses are safe. All my cars have had alarms. I still had a window smashed once by a thief. Alarm technology keeps the car safe more than the movable items within.

FWIW, many 05s did not have their alarm turned on at the factory. Once we figured it out, it was difficult to get the service managers to understand what we were talking about (someone's went so far as to insist that the car didnt come with an alarm!), so if yours is an 05 you'll want to check that out.

no motion sensor either...
My Audi A4 had a built-in motion sensor :crybaby:

I guess the built-in alarm prevents thieves from entering the car via opening doors, but not windows :werd:

No car alarm system is burglar proof, if they want in, they will get in.

There is a switch on the door lock cylinder that notifies the computer of a valid key rotation. I can see how they might fool the computer by busting the lock.
There is always a way around any alarm system.
Especially if they are just stealing stuff out of the inside of the car.

How many times in the last year have you heard a car alarm go off that you even cared about? Usually when I hear them I just wish the idiot would turn it off. I never rush to see who is trying to steal the car.

It is the truth, you'd rather have them turn it off then to see what's going on. I chalk this one up as no damage to the car = extremely lucky, especially after seeing the picture posted. I just feel violated. Plus it happened at work so now I'm worried about where to park it. I was the last one at a dead end in a parking garage. Now where to hide?

My dad always used to joke about those systems with the pagers.
He used to say that you can get there just in time to get beat up by the same guys that broke into your car ;)

You could always get hurricane window laminates...

Wont STOP them, but it will be a bigger pain in the ass to get through the window and may force them to open the door and set off your horn.

I agree with what is being said here but still think an upgrade to the oem system can be valuable. I'm more concerned with having my car stolen. In fact, last year someone tried to steal my Audi S4 from work. They tried to get in by breaking the door lock. This usually works but this guy had a hard time with it and moved on to another car. That car was stolen. My car was left with deep scratches, gouges and dents to the body and paint. I later found out that good car thieves can also disable your immobilizer and car alarm very quickly. After some research i ended up installing a solid core plug instead of a real lock. I added motion sensors and had my immobilizer rewired so that it can't be disabled. I also added 3 screaming loud sirens that are installed under the dash and in the A/C vents. They are so F'ing loud that your ears will hurt and they're really hard to find and disable. I'm going to do the same with the V.
