Hi guys,

I just recently joined the ranks and purchased a diamond white 2007 CTS and I was hoping you could help me with some questions I had.

1) How do you remove the front seat back covers? The netting has pulled out and I just want to be able to tighten it back up. Do you need to remove the whole seat back cover or just the u-shaped plastic mldg on the seat back cover, and how do they come off?

2) How do you remove the subwoofer speaker grille? Is it simply held in place with clips and you have to pull up on it? I just don't want to break anything trying.

3) Is there supposed to be an ashtray behind the door in the bottom of the center dash directly below the climate control system? Mine has a lighter on the right but just an empty space where it looks like an ashtray would slide into. Any pics?

Thanks in advance,
Great forum btw!

I don't understand what you mean by the netting. However, since you mentioned that you want to take out the grill for the sub, don't know why, I might just tell you how to take the back seat out.

First, take out the lower part of the seat, where you butt goes. That is very easy to come out, mostly because there are two fuse boxes under that. One on the driver's and one on the passenger side. They are just under the rug when you remove the seat. But anyways, back to the grill and such. There are four big bolts, I believe 15mm socket. Then in the trunk there are for more bolts, 10mm. However, they are on a bolt that sticks out at least a inch half. So you'll need a deep socket, or a box wrench.

Once you have the back seat out, or just out of your way, no need to take it totally out. There are two popit that you will see holding the rear deck cover on. Take those out, I threw mine away because they are a pain in the butt. Once they are out, you have to take the two side covers on. Where the rear side air bags are kept. WARNING, there is one piece of plastic with "AirBag" written on them. They were hard to get out for me, But you must take them both off, one on each side. Because there is a 8 or 10 mm bolt behind them. Trust me, the previous owner already messed that up for me on one side. Don't worry if the bolt drops, there is something on the cover itself that will hold it maybe a inch or so down from the bolt.

Take the side covers off and pull down the seat belt so that you can rest them outside of the car. You now are able to remove the rear deck cover. However, keep a damn good eye on both sides of the cover. Because you do NOT want to accidently pull out the wire from the rear defroster. Once that is out, you'll see how you can take the grill off. I know this sounds like alot of work, but once you see how the grill stays on there. You'll be thankful that you did it.

As far as the "ash tray" There is something that is in my car, but it has a cloth material in mine. Guess the first owner didn't order the cigarette package. Which I am glad, even though I am a smoker. I prefer not to have my car smell like smoke.

Thanks for the detailed response!

By "netting", I mean the net material that is on the back of both font seats for holding maps and such. I hope it isn't as difficult a procedure as what you mentioned for the subwoofer grille?

I can't believe you have to take apart half the car to remove a grille but I guess it follows the same theory as having to change a headlight on a CTS lol! Thanks for the procedure.

I kinda thought something should slide into that ashtray compartment area. I believe this car was equipped with the smokers package and I think there is a slight residual smell left over but since I'm not a smoker I think it will disssipitate completely over time. Does the cloth covered thing you mention slide in and out and do you think this piece would fit in replacement of the ashtray that is probably missing? Can you show me a close-up pic and if it does slide out, can you see the p/n?

Thanks , Ken

Yes, that's correct. It's behind the swing open door. Mine has a lighter on the right and a hole on the left where it looks like a slide-out ashtray would reside. I just bought my '07 also and while becoming familiar with everything, noticed this part missing. I don't smoke, so an ashtray isn't necessary if I can get a slide-in pocket instead especially since the Cadillac dealers here want $629 for just the pop-in ashtray!

Please HELP!

Does anyone or could anyone pull out their flocked pocket (it resides in place of the ashtray) and get me the p/n that should be stamped in the back somewhere on the black plastic? My dealer can't find this part and wants $629 for an ashtray where I would rather have the pocket.

Thanks in advance,
Ken

I just went out and looked at mine and noticed I am also missing whatever goes there :( I also am a non-smoker so replacing the flocked pocket is something I'll have to look into as well. I'll let you know if I find anything out.

sorry to say. But the little pocket thing that I mentioned does not have a part number on it. I bet that it only goes with the whole unit. Which is why they want over $600 for it. Which will include the hide away pocket and the climent controls.

Hmmm, that sucks but it would make up for the cost. Might have to come up with some innovative thinking on this one. Thanks for checking for me.

Go to a local scrap yeard and find one off a wrecked CTS. Bring coffee's, make friends with someone there, and see if they'll give it to you for free...

Good one! I never really got anything for free in my life but I did manage to find a guy who has these for a reasonable price!

I bought my car brand new and nothing belongs where you think you should have an ash tray. Its just a little compartment to hold something small.
Mine has no small compartment or ashtray just a hole with spring like protrusions to hold a slide-in pocket or ashtray. I believe that if the car is ordered with the smokers package you would get a slide-in/out removable ashtray and if it didn't, then you would receive a slide-in/out removable pocket (compartment). This is my assumption and since my car has the smokers package on the option list, I believe it should have the ashtray.

I don't know about the 07 model year. But I just went out to mine, 06. And pulled on the top part of the plastic. At the bottom there are just two hinges. Though, I didn't see any of the string behind it.

How is it lose anyways? On mine the very top string is really elastic, while all the others are rope like. Which are kinda lose anyways.

What was holding it on at the top? Were you able to pull the plastic back away from the seat? My d/s net is flat and tight against the seat back whereas the p/s is hanging all loose and baggy looking. I can tell this would be easily corrected if I can get at the bottom from the back as the net like material has pulled out too much from wherever it is attached behind the plastic.
