One of the bolts connecting the exhaust to the exhaust flange behind the cat is broken now.

You just need to buy a properly sized bolt and nut to replace the stud.

Use the double nut jam trick to turn out the broken stud if there's threads left attached to it, or drill it out if it snapped off flush. While you're at it, I'd replace both studs with the nut and bolt so they match.
Use some Liquid Wrench and a reverse tap and drill baby drill.

Replace the stud(s) with stainless bolts.
Thank you. I can still drive it for a while I'm assuming. That seems a little too complicated for me right now. I'm still trying to just do the UUC shifter. Almost four hours in right now. Been very interesting.
You'll have a hellacious exhaust leak, so I wouldn't drive it a lot with that stud broken.

If you can get the shifter done soon, head to Lowe's and carry in the broken stud. Find a similar size stainless bolt and nut, then head over to a Midas or Muffler man and offer one of the techs some cash to toss it on the lift and drill out the broken stud for you. 20 or 30 bucks should be all you need for the 5 minutes it'll take them.

Been there (x2).....

From my experience around those sort of shops - that is one scary thought :helpless:
How will I know it is leaking? I tightened up the other bolt as best I could and went for a drive. I couldn't hear a difference. Thanks.

You will know its leaking when you fall asleep at the wheel from carbon monoxide posioning. In all seriousness, if don't want to fool with it (understandable) any exhaust/muffler shop should fix it at very little cost.
When I replaced my headers I forgot that the stock bolts don't work. I rummaged through the bits and bolts and just used a good sized bolt and nut. Don't sweat it too much.

If you need to, just get back together what you can and take it to an exhaust or repair shop...
Thanks for all the advice. I'll take it to a muffler shop when I can, hopefully tomorrow. The funny thing in the first nut, I just man handled it off, rust and all. Then I smartened up and put liquid wrench on the other three, breaking the last one. Happy guy I swear. Another point to make it I was able to squeeze my hands around the resonator to change out the shifter.
so how's she running?

YUP exactly where I would have gone.. That or buy headers and use slip clamps..
Here is my B&B flange joint with my solid copper gasket sandwiched with PERMATEX high temp copper gasket sealer/maker.

I got a bit sloppy as that PERMATEX stuff migrates to everything you touch.

I am proud to say that the immortal heavy is as sloppy at sealing gaskets as I am... :highfive:
I can't tell a difference. The shifter is sick. It makes the car feel more raw, because of the notchyness when shifting. I'm going to have someone look at it (the exhaust) tomorrow.
an exhaust shop will have you set up in minutes...
