Honda Civic Hybrid 2006, I liked it so much that I.....

.....bought the stock!
I was at the dealership lastnight and test drove the new Civic Hybrid to see whats up. It was huge inside, very roomy. I think theres more headroom in there than in my deville...no joke. I am 230 lbs 6ft, and I found the inside much more comfortable and spacy compared to a FX35 I recently drove. Fit and finish was really good (again better than Infiniti). The design was much nicer in person than I thought.
The best part was the hybrid drive, it was prety quick and almost totally tranparent! Couple that with 51 MPG, $2000 tax credit, and right to drive the carpool lane I was very pleasantly surprised.
Since I'm not quite ready to sell my caddy and buy a civic, (ask me again after I move to LA in Jan) I bought a chunk of Honda stock (HMC) first thing this morning.
Then motor trend announced it as the car of the year! Long story short, I made about 0.5% return already! Thats 178% annualized return.....if it keeps headed up 0.5% a day for the next 356 days that is :D
Anyways, anyone in the market for a small car I'd take a look at this thing. It really a great little car.

Say it ain't so. He's sold his soul to the devil:devil:

j/k:D But if I were you, I would have bought Toyota stock - they're handing GM their asses right now with the "moving forward" campaign and their hybrids. Plus, with Toyota, you can get a "guilt free SUV" that gets 30 MPG rather than the 12MPG in your GM-made Hummer...Get some Toyota stock...;)

Yeah Toyota's the 'best in breed' for sure. But its 99$ a share (honda is 28 bucks a share) so you get more leverage out of Honda.

For this trade I didn't do alot of fundamental analysis (if I did I dont think I'd be buying car companies) it was more of an emotional buy!

.....With all the cars I've been test driving lately I belive my soul is up for sale now! I just havent found the right devil yet :)

As you can see they trade in line anyways.

Hey, buying stock is better than going to Vegas, you have much better odds. I think we should be looking closely at GM stock though, with the trouble they are having and their stock dropping they will be a bargain and I'm sure we will see a come back from them. Those with the means to invest when times are tough will benefit greatly when things improve. Buy low - sell high!

By the way Powerglide, I hope that 230 lbs is muscle at 6'! :shhh: I'm just over 5'-10" and was a steady 165 lbs until I started detailing (CAD drawing HVAC systems for coordination and fabrication). About 3 years into the desk job I started seeing the effects of what we call the "Detailer's Spread". I grew up to 210 lbs! :annoyed: In the last few months I've changed my eating habits and have dropped to about 193. My target weight is between 175 and 185.
*OK, end of thread jack.*

Oh man! Forget the sodas altogether! Go back to water and no eating or snacking within two hours of going to bed! Eat a good breakfast and then cut down on portions for the rest of the day. No more fast food! You've got to help yourself out man! Just say no to that yummy snack! Take a walk every day, go outside and enjoy, hit the beach, wrestle alligators for gosh sakes! Do it for yourself, for your future family!

*get's off soap box*

LOL!

I hear you Kev....it is NOT muscle.
I sit in front of a computer all day too and I was up to 240!
Actually lost 10 lbs this month and I want to be south of 200 by sometime next spring…..this thanksgiving I gotta be careful!!

About gm stock, I was going to put a pair trade on Long Honda/Short GM but I only put on the long side…..this is my way of expressing faith/hope in GM.

I bought gm on the last dip and managed to sell ‘high’ but ofcourse couldn’t time it that right….check out Honda (HMC) up 1.5% in just 24 hours! Wooo Hooo!

Sorry to say this, but I'm probably going to trade my deVille in, and buy a Honda! :ill:

I'm doing this because of the unfixable coolant leak, and at this stage in my life, I do not need another big luxury car, I need something thats reliable, economical, and just basic transportation. Thats exactly what a Honda is.
I found a decent '90 Accord EX Coupe, 160k miles, he wants $1499 for it. I have been offered $1500 for my car at trade in.

I just need something basic to get me through college. I will buy a Town Car or Brougham after college as planned.

No don't worry, I will not become a ricer or Honda fanatic. I still LUV CADDYS (and lincolns)!

Don't hate me for this :) I'm not selling out! :)

Well, not much.
In fact I just got a new trading platform and was using this to test it out.
I highly reccomend it IB Brokers.com. Its about 100 times cheaper than e-trade (0.01 $/share) and you can trade everything from stocks/options/commodities/currency in markest around the world)

For the case of Honda, I bought 5G's worth and sold it all about 24 hours later.
The stock moved 1.5% in the meantime making me 75$ in one day. Alot of times people 'annualize' their returns (ie multiply by 365) to compare to say a CD or savings account. **this is pretty bogus because stocks go up and down so you cant just expect to be making 1.5% everyday, but the thought is if you locked up your money in a CD for one year, your opportunity cost is huge. Anyways, annualized return on that trade was 547%. (these are the crazy numbers some folks will quote you to brag about performance, but it kinda gives you a sense of how much your bank is screwing you on the sub 1% interest they pay you....)

Function before form, always. Honda is much much MUCH more sensible for a college kid than a cadillac...I ended up getting rid of mine because I couldn't afford the upkeep...it kept breaking and breaking and breaking. The A/C quit, for the third time in one summer, after I had put new wheel sensors in it, a new engine in it, and the tranny had started acting up. I sold the Caddy, paid off my credit card, and bought a pickup truck that I love and can beat to hell and has air conditioning, for five hundred bucks, which was less than it would have cost me to repair jUST the AC on the caddy.
