So the passenger side hood hinge is bent (see pic) can I just pry it back or remove to flatten & reinstall? The hood shuts but this is going to become a real problem I just don’t have $500 for refurbished hinges atm. What’s your thoughts 💭

JY springs to mind. Or pound it out and pay a muffler shop $50 to mig a bar onto it. And of course oil.

There's a guy who rebuilt some for me who is good and more reasonable than $500. It's difficult to see from your photo but if the bend is near or partially through a pivot point it may cause issues. Willie does replace the pivot points so at least the area would be completely apart during a potential repair; highest probability for success. To be clear he rebuilds and he seems pretty resourceful/mechanical so he can probably fix it but I think his business is rebuilding; not necessarily repairing the type of damage on yours. He would give you an honest assessment.

His website is:

I can't see if the metal has cracked. If it has it needs to be welded/repaired. If it's not, heat it up at the bend to correct it. I dont need to tell you how heavy the hood is, fix it right the first time.

Or maybe you get lucky at a classic grave/salvage yard.

When your finished give the hinges a nice lube of lithium grease.

Welp the finally broke. Ugh 🤦‍♂️
what GM hood hinges are the same as a 1977 cadillac Eldorado? Everything I see wants $500+ core deposit. Dude, I can’t swing off this 300 lb hood to take off the old hinges and wait 2-3 weeks. So what GM hood hinges are the same as a 1975-78 Cadillac Eldorado ?

I would try to find a junkyard part from an Eldorado. The interchange manual, if someone has one, would be the best place to check. When you search on eBay the places which are actually junkyards do that check themselves and include the info in the listing. So look for Eldo only first and see if they list other cars. The Toronado hinges would be my guess if anything else uses the same PN.

One other note: Even for Chevelle where there is TONs of aftermarket support I would never again buy an aftermarket hinge. We tried a new set from a well known Chevelle part supplier and they looked correct but never worked which actually, after lots of manipulation, cause damage to the hood paint in the area. Never again. We sent the originals out to Willie who I referenced in an earlier post.

A seller on EBay, "Cadillac King", has them, rebuilt originals, but they are expensive and in addition a $200 core. They fit:

there's a thread on this for my '72 at Hood hinge on 1972 Eldorado lost a bolt!

I still haven't gotten to it, as more critical things keep piling up. If you search pieces from it, though, it seems to me that there is a shop in upstate NY that just specializes in these.

When mine popped a rivet, I replaced it with a grade 8 bolt.

Which revealed that it had popped because the other side was bent; lowering again bent the other hinge, too . . .

(the hood is still hanging from my garage ceiling)
