High pitch sound in AWD Mode

Ok. My XT6 is premium awd. The default mode when starting the car is 2wd. I’m driving on the freeway in the snow running about 55 mph on 70 speed limit. So I put the car in awd. It transfer smoothly and the engine is quiet. Snow on the road is gone. I sped up to the speed limit. II started to hear this loud high pitch that’s very irritating. It’s been there when I’m at 70 mph. But when I slow down below 70 noise is going away. Speed up to70 and there’s the sound again. I maintain the 70 and bear the sound for 15 min to see if it will go away. It didn’t. But when it’s below 70, sound is gone. Is there anyone experienced this and what is the fix on this. I have an apt with the dealer this Saturday to have it check.

I feel like there was reports of a similar situation with the XT5 but I could wrong. But they share the same AWD system so any repair for the XT5 should also to the XT6.
Thanks Cutlass. Hopefully my SA knows about that issue and they know how to fix it.
Just FYI. The high pitch sound of my vehicle has been resolved. They replaced the whole rear differential. And Cutlass was right. The technician drove test my vehicle said it’s very similar to xt5. They ended up replacing the whole assembly.

@Next6 have you had any recurring problems since your rear differential was replaced? We have a 22 sport platinum with 5,000 miles that just started making the same noise. It goes in on Wednesday.
Jtjuilli, what speed did your noise occur at, and did they fix it? We have a 2020 Premium Luxury AWD that makes a terrible high pitch sound right at 29-30mph in AWD, shift to 2wd and it goes away. We've had it into the dealer and they couldn't locate where it was coming from. I'm going to take it back in, it's really embarrassing when we have friends riding with us!
Hi @Rays B4U, We’re experiencing at the same speeds as you. It remains up to highway speeds but then goes away after a few miles at interstate speeds. It is so frustratingly intermittent, but since @Cadillac Customer Service doesn’t expect dealers to offer loaner service like every new and used BMW I’ve owned, I’d have to go without a car for a week of the dealer driving my new $78k XT6 with less than 10k miles around to diagnose the problem since the video we provided isn’t enough for them to actually put forth some mechanical intelligence once the vehicle is on the rack. I may be a bit salty as I remember why I shouldn’t have spent so much money on a GM product since the brand knows how to create premium price tags but can’t seem to offer premium service levels. And yes, it is embarrassing!

I'm going to take it back in and force the issue. My local GM dealer is Chevy dealership and WAS a Cadillac dealer too, but unfortunately they gave up the Cadillac line due to big dollar changes being forced upon them by GM headquarters. I've always had good luck getting a rental car and they pay for it, I guess I'll find out if their customer service is still good for us Cadillac owners.

Thank you! I’ll ask that too. I’m in the same boat! Mount Vernon GM center dropped Cadillac for same reasons so I’ve been driving to Germain in Columbus, OH. They haven’t offered the rental option. Please keep me updated on your battle and I’ll do the same.

Sucks. Thanks for posting your experiences at it will undoubtedly help others.

Since the platform is shared with the XT5 and even the Chevy Traverse and Buick Enclave, this must reach way beyond us here.

Do you drive in Touring mode mostly?

Interesting. Last winter (first one) w/ my 2021 XT5 I'd get a whine when in AWD at about 50kph similar to Rays B4U, but mine only occurred at temps below -20c. Had a couple really cold days this winter, and no sounds now in AWD.

No, we drive in AWD mostly.

Interesting. I am now in AWD weather so will keep it there for the winter but the 2WD mileage is hard to ignore.

Tell me more 🤓 please! What improvement do you experience in 2wd? We haven’t played around with it.

UPDATE:
Dealership has had the XT6 for 2 days now and they think a carrier bearing is the problem and have a new one ordered for it. Will update you when the new part is put in.

Sorry that I missed your question at the time. It's about 5% improvement in FWD but winter mileage is super lousy due to slippery condition, winter tires, and winter grade gas.

Thanks for update. Please keep us updated. I’m curious as to how they troubleshooted too, if you can share.

They said they used "Muffs" which I think is similar to a stethoscope. They would move it to different components while they had the car on the hoist and in gear. When they placed it on the carrier bearing they could hear it, when they moved it to another component the noise wasn't there.

Very helpful! Did yours make the noise constantly or occasionally? Mine seems to do it when under load, moderate to aggressive acceleration or when turning followed by a acceleration….assuming the latter is due to the AWD system engaging and disengaging different wheels.
