Last month, Chevrolet sold 8,602 HHRs. Sales of the wagon outpaced those of the Scion xB (4,459) and Honda Element (4,988). Chrysler sold 11,742 PT Cruisers last month.

According to the J.D. Power Information Network, the largest bloc of buyers -- 42.7 percent -- were Chevrolet owners. But Lutz says nearly half of the HHR sales comes from owners of competitors' vehicles.

"Any time we get that, we know a vehicle is working for us," Lutz says. "The top markets for it are Southern California, Houston and Dallas, which are areas where it's always hard to achieve breakthrough with a domestic passenger vehicle."

I drove one a week ago that a friend bought. It drove great, it was smooth, quiet and had ample power. I think they look real good against the competition! The PT looks like a squated frog next to the HHR. My wife might buy one and park her '04 Bravada, since her medical office is 30 miles from home.

From what Ive read, sales of the PT Cruiser have been declining heavily over the past few years, that the HHR is about 3000 units behind current sales of the PT Cruiser is not terribly good news in my opinion.

Its a good niche vehicle for Chevrolet. Personally, I didn't think they'd do too good since the PT Cruiser phase is over, but it seems that with each new car GM builds the overall quality just gets better and better (and I really do like GM getting so good:highfive: ) and this HHR thing is no exception.

I think it gets crazy gas mileage from what I've heard, especially considering that its a wagon, so that definately has something to do with it.

Gas mileage....I had to pay 3.19 for Diesel today, and regular was 2.99! Somebody tell me how diesel (which has been cheaper than gas for the last 100 years (probably)) became this much more expensive than gas???

It's okay though i guess, since I get 30 MPG...:rolleyes:guess these diesels cadillacs are good for something...:sneaky:
