Hi,
Picked up a 2006 cts-v yesterday, then drove hundereds of miles home. The car has billy boat long tubes to borla mufflers. Here's the problem...there is an awful drone between 1400-1900 rpm's and the car shakes and vibrates at idle. The shop told me that i should put a stock x pipe on the car. I have no idea.

This is my daily driver and im willing to give up a few ponies, but don't want to pay thousands on a custom exhaust.

Do I have options to remove drone and quiet the system?

Please and thank you,

A stock X-pipe isn't going to fit with aftermarket long tubes, so "the shop" gave you pretty poor advice.

Looking at pics on Borla's site, their cat-back exhaust doesn't have any resonators, just an X-pipe, so I imagine that's partly why it's so loud. Of course, long tubes and no cats doesn't help.

The stock exhaust would probably be your best bet, but you'd have to find one used, which is hard to do at this point. Maybe in the CTS-V Classifieds here or the CTS-V Classifieds group on FB? The stock system would have to be modified to mate up to the BB headers.

Another option which might work is this - Ford Performance Parts By Borla 2015-2019 Mustang GT Forward Resonators M-5231-M8. It's even made by Borla, so what more can you ask for? ;) I went looking on Summit for a dual-in / dual-out resonator, and came across that. Based on the description it sounds like it might have a built-in cross-over, much like the resonator in the stock V exhaust. I have no idea if the pipes are the correct width/spacing for your Borla exhaust, and I have no idea if the thing would physically fit on our cars. You could order one, see how it looks, and if it's a no-go, send it back to Summit.

Unfamiliar with your car's undercarriage, but wonder if an H- kit provides the most practical and by far quickest/cheapest solution to get scavenging benefits. Any time installing a catback on my '90's tubs I've replicated the oem resonators with JC Whitney glasspaks to quell any drone. A cheap set of Jones brand may improve things. That is, as long as space allows.

I have had both an H and a X pipe. The x pipe has less drone.

Borla has resonators, they are farther back, just in front of the diff.

I have kooks, kooks cats and borla catback. Zero drone.

Do you have cats installed? If not, start there and install a set.

Can you post a pic? If it's a full borla catback, it should already have an x pipe in the system.
