i just started to notice noise in my rearend differential only when i put it in reverse and almost sound like a bad u joint .. its a 07 escalade 70k miles on it is it normal to sound like that at 70 k?? would hate to replace it theyare costly eny body knows a better way to go before it might break or a cheap repair? or has enybody experienced something similar? oh and its a rwd not allwheel drive please help to save me some cash
You might be able to tell if it's a U-joint by grabbing the drive shaft and manually rotating it back and forth. The clunk is sometimes audible and palpable.
Thanks buddy yeah i tried that but no noise or movement in the u joint it the rear diff cuase i went under and my wife was putting it in reverse and in drive and the only noise was in the differential when it is but in reverse its wierd cuase it only does it when i put in reverse
Glad you got it all fixed! I had a very similar symptom before and it was the u-joint in my case. Also fixed under powertrain warranty.
What took you so long by the way?
