I'm relatively new to the world and usefulness of forums like this one but don't really understand SPAM and why forums like this one will pay members to report "SPAMMING "

In my day Spam was that crappy mystery meat that came in a can that didn't need refrigeration that your mom threw on your dinner plate every Thursday.

Can someone give me an example of what to look f/.

I have a vague idea.......I think.

Has anyone here ever been the target of Spam?

THANX

Spam is random posts when people just register to sell random crap (electronics usually) at an amazing price which usually end up being scams.

Spammers are often identified by their tendency to type each sentence on its own line rather than using conventional paragraph formatting, use made-up abbreviations like "f/", and use 6 or 8 or 10 periods in a row rather than a comma or an ellipsis. If you see posts like that, report them immediately!

I didn't think it was possible to have accessed the internet in the past 20 years and not have been exposed to spam at some point. You've never gotten a spam email before? If you have received spam email, then you shouldn't need any explanation of what constitutes spam on the forum - it's BS advertising, links to sites for pirated software or movies or music, etc. If you have not received spam email, then you must be some sort of internet god, impervious to the maladies that afflict us peons. :p If you don't know what spam is, PapaV, then it's safe to say you don't need to worry about identifying it.

And nobody is getting paid to report spam. Not sure where you got that idea.

What the heck is this "f/" all about?

Those annoying pop-ups that bring you to adult sites and such, are a form of spam. Same goes with the ones that come in your email box. As well as the afore(pardon me... af/) mentioned spammer from the Middle East.

The definition of a "troll" however... Well one could be in this very thread.

Looks like you've figured out spam and moved on to trolling. Taking shots at staff members is a very quick way to wear out your welcome in our community. Let this serve as a warning Mr.PapaV.

..If you wish to file a complaint click the little triangle report button, draft your grievance and submit.

Sounds like a case of too much Jack Daniel's, especially given the juvenile attempt at texting. Please get out of your tiny -V forum and look at what goes on in the rest of this HUGE site.

The Internet is NOT "our turf" - or even your turf - which is one reason why companies and sites enlist the volunteer help of "Moderators" to assist in the day-to-day maintenance of advice forums. Because this site is so large and so well read, worldwide, it is a perfect vehicle for posting all sorts of "Buy/Watch/Try this" type of false advertising. We remove any and all of it as quickly as an alert member reports it. Quite often the false advertising contains links to spyware, malware and virus downloads.

Obviously, you are not internet savvy ..............https://www.google.com/search?q=spam+definition&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8
