Thats tough because in those years you mentioned (and keep in mind there was no DTS in 99, just Deville) the cars are actually very similar in performance and handling characteristics (not to mention they are just a re-hash of the same platform anyway).

In 2001 the STS got a bit of the edge in the technology department with Xenon lights, bigger wheels, and some interior enhancements.

It will come down to which style fits you best, Its basically like the difference between a Rolex Submariner and a Rolex Datejust watch. Same internal works pretty much, but different exterior character. Sporty vs. more elegant. I will say that the DTS is wearing a little better with age than the STS, even though I always preferred the STS myself. This is partially because the new 06 DTS is still based upon the same car.
I think the STS is a lot prettier.
The DTS looks closer to current Cadillacs due to the headlamp design, but personally I prefer the STS lamps.
The DTS will provide a little more rear seat leg room. But the STS is more fun to drive. Both should be consided to be 4 seaters.

The newer model you get, the more engine improvements you pick up; like roller cam followers, coil on plug ignition, improved oil sealing.... among others.

The go-to car when I'm motoring solo is the STS. But when my bride is along for the ride, we are in the DTS.
Hmmm, I drive a 99 SLS, pretty much the same thing as the STS. I like the sporty look of the Seville better than the DeVille. My father has the 2000 DeVilel. I deffinetly think that it was a big plus how they changed the body style for the DeVille in 2000. In the end, regardless of what we would suggest, the money for the payments is coming out of your pocket... in my opinion though, if you want sport, go with the Seville but if you want the extra room and the larger sedan, go with the DeVille. I like the Seville better though.
See even we can't decide. It pretty much comes down to which you think looks better, and if you need the little bit more space the Deville provides.

There was the Concours, though, which wasn't too far off from the 00 DTS.

Yeah, I agree about the Concours, I was thinking the same thing........but why did you have to throw that into the equation? *LOL
Hey buddy,
If your going to decide STS, I have a really clean 99 STS that I may be selling. White Diamond with more than a year left under GMPP Warranty. Let me know if interested, I will give you a great deal. Thanks for your time.

well, ive decided that ill prolly go sts. im currently looking at an 03 white diamond, with factory nav., xm etc....everything. only thing is it has 72000 mi on it, which is a little hefty for that year but they are only asking 18400 for it and giving me decent for my trade. the car is literally brand new aside from mileage, its gorgeous. do you guys think that this is worth buying?

also, detroit, let me know about your car man, i might be interested. but, i live in n.w. illinois (quad cities area) and would rather not travel to see a car. but, regardless, let me know.
Gust,
my car has about 82,500 miles.
It has a brand new Northstar with only about 20,000 miles, installed at Don Gooley Cadillac of St. Clair Shores. I have it on Autotrader for $12,900, including the GM Warranty. I am willing to go lower though. No moonroof, no Navigation. Newer Continental tires. Very Clean.

BTW be careful of the 2003 STS you are looking at, seeing that Northstars are known for having bad head gaskets around 60k-70k miles. I no longer have to worry about that problem for a while in my car, due to the new Northstar. Runs VERY SMOOTHLY. Beautiful. I do my own oil changes.

Let me know if you have any more questions. I understand that it is a little far from Illinois. Keep me updated. If you want to see the autotrader link, it is

In 2000, the compression Northstar's ratio was reduced so you could run regular fuel without the ECU having to retard timing. I *heard* the head bolt design was improved by 2000 as well, but I can't confirm that.

All things considered, detroit99sts's Caddy is a damn good deal.
Jesda, Thanks for the input. I still run at least 91. Mostly 93 octane, just to be on the safe side.

that is a nice looking car, but im curious...why did you have to get a new motor? and what kind of warranty is left on it? also i doubt i would be able to come to michigan for this, but i might have a buddy of mine see if he could help with that. why are you selling, btw? just, tell me everything you could about the car if you would please, especially about the condition of the interior (im very picky about that). thanks man, peace

New Motor: I had bad head gaskets when I bought it and did not know until about a week after the purchase. Frantically, I went to have the dealership replace them. They basically said it was not worth replacing the head gaskets, but better to Give me a brand new Northstar. WHAT A RELIEF!!! At least the "notorious Northstar Head Gasket Problem" has been taken care of in my Caddy. It was $7,800 worth of Warranty-covered parts/labor.
Reason I am selling: Well, I am not really in a rush to sell. I am just one of those people who always likes to have a different car every year or so.
Warranty: GMPP (General Motors Protection Plan). Cost me about $1,950. (have all receipts). here is a link to its coverages. My warranty is the "Value Guard"
Exterior: I give it a 9 out of 10. A few typical little stone chips(barely noticable). Looks Beautiful. Recently professionally detailed. The great thing about the pearl white diamond is that it looks clean even when a little dirty. At night it almost "glows". Windshield has a small crack and a small chip which will be fixed via insurance soon.
Interior:Leather is in great shape. Typical driver seat wear (mainly just dirty),no tears or rips. I think the only button that is worn out slightly is the drivers side window button. Stereo is Bose 9 speaker (beautiful sound).

carpet is good shape. Mats are in good shape. May need a good cleaning. Tires are in great shape (just rotated).

I dont know what else you would like to know about this vehicle. Feel free to ask, please. I am in no hurry. I understand how picky you are bro, I am the SAME way when it comes to cars. :)

-Regards,

Mike

Being that you posted this little survey in the Seville/Eldo forum you may or may not be surprised at how many like the STS/SLS over the Deville/DHS/DTS.

Have you posted this in the Deville forum?
